Not bad at all. I'm surprised there's not an even more affordable pay-as-you-go option for data, though.

Very cool. I spotted a little layout bug: Resize your browser to be skinny, you'll see that the "Sign Up/Sign In" text starts to overlap the header text and become unreadable.

It wasn't immediately clear to me what changed. Here's the old homepage: http://web.archive.org/web/20110713211922/http://www.linode.... It appears Linode removed the 768 and 1536 plans, renamed the 1024/2048/4096 plans to 1GB/2GB/4GB, an

That would be interesting. This offer to colo a RasPi for free (which was on HN awhile back) is apparently still valid: https://www.edis.at/en/server/colocation/austria/raspberrypi... I've got two Raspberry Pis coming to me in the mail, s

I don't think the author is saying his old-fashioned phone is chic... just economic. As a college student, he doesn't have a lot of disposable income, and to him the benefits of a smartphone don't justify the cost, even though he admits his

At the end, the author suggests getting an iPod Touch. A friend I just visited in NYC does this. My friend has an iPod Touch he uses to make Google Voice calls when wifi is available (which is most of the time). He also has a dumbphone for

I do it sometimes compulsively, but I think it started for a legitimate reason: clicking to make sure the text has focus. That way when I use up/down/PageUp/PageDown to scroll, the text actually scrolls. If there is a textbox that has focus

Definitely agree with this. I ride a crappy bike I've been meaning to upgrade (it's heavy, rusted and tends to need lots of repairs), but the upside is no one's gonna work very hard to steal it. I'm loath to give up that peace of mind. For

Wow. I on the other hand have drinking glasses, plates and cutlery I bought from a thrift store for like $20 for the whole set and it's been holding up fine for years. Maybe the lesson here is it's better to buy a decent product for cheap u

With security I'm interested in the situation right now, not what the plan is to do eventually. If I were to get ripped off, it's no consolation knowing that someone was planning to fix the bug later when they got around to it. The attack d

I was curious if this was secure. Apparently you are trusting the server you retrieve blockchain information from, and could be defrauded if that server is compromised: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Thin_Client_Security#Server-Trust... Looks

Maybe I'm unimaginative, but why would I use this? I'd like to see an example or three of why this app is cool. The only thing I can think of is if you're going to go meet someone, but this idea isn't fleshed out on the site.

At first I thought this was describing Bitwise Cyclic Tag ( http://esolangs.org/wiki/Bitwise_Cyclic_Tag ), but it's subtly different. And even simpler, as it turns out. I'm impressed.

Yes and no. I block ads, but when I find a good article I reshare the link to friends/followers who do not block ads. If only two of them view the content and ads, it's a net positive for the publisher to let me view the article. As a side

The article suggests OpenBSD lacks support for newer hardware. Not sure if that's true today, or in certain categories (graphics cards?). But, credit where credit is due: Around 2005-6, I chose to run OpenBSD on my desktop computer at home

The suggestion that OkCupid's algorithms were right all along and that's why the 4-year relationship failed is, if taken seriously, indeed questionable. But I'd assume that remark is more an offhanded joke than anything.

Agreed. I'm a little surprised (though not much) to see lock-in so openly touted as a goal. In the long run such lock-in is inherently anti-consumer and a problem many are trying to solve. Look at Facebook these days, which everyone complai
