I've seen that article and I submit the Nexus 7 as a counter-example. (If anyone didn't read the link: that quote's making an analogy between desktop Linux and Android devices.) The Nexus 7 was widely agreed to be great on day one, even by

johngalt didn't mention a mouse, you did. I think when we get larger touchscreens the mouse may indeed become obsolete. (I'm looking forward to it; I never had any love for that form of input.) But a keyboard will continue to be useful for

As seems typical for popular Twitter hashtags, it's mostly just people discussing the hashtag itself and relatively few links to papers.

So I don't know how long it will take but one of my side project ideas is to build an Instagram-like photo sharing social network that uses your Dropbox for storage. Since a lot of my ideas turn out to be unoriginal, does anyone know if thi

Nice. Do you pay for Google Drive? My music collection is too large to store in the cloud affordably. But this looks cool, I'm uploading an album to my (previously unused) Drive to try it out. Edit: Hmm, seems glitchy. The music is playing

That's great news. Do you know what release this will land in? Edit: Oops, I guess it's already there. I couldn't think of a site with an appropriately sized fixed header to test it, but Google+ is such a site and pagedown works perfectly t

So here's a silly idea HN might appreciate. After reading some protocol specs I thought of using the key words from RFC 2119[1] to organize my todo list. There are tasks I MUST do, which are an absolute requirement. There are tasks I SHOULD

I don't remember that ever happening. How long ago did you try it? Comparing the two now, Firefox seems on par with Browser for app startup and slightly quicker to display pages.

Paul, I'm disappointed to see this from you. Calling someone a “hater”, no matter how carefully and eruditely you define the term, is still an ad hominem attack intended to dismiss their opinion. It's a DH1 on your disagreement hierarchy. I

I believe (and hope) your critique is well-intentioned, but just think about it a little more. If you are a trans person, a very significant amount of the population probably treats you like you are weird or a freak. You could be verbally h
