I will never understand why private companies curating their platforms is equated with censorship. In China (and elsewhere) a central government curates acceptable speech. If you don't comply you go to jail. In the "West" yo

I used flowblade 2.6.0 for my teaching throughout the pandemic. It's a wonderful tool and I never experienced any crashes. Earlier I tried Shotcut, Openshot and others. They were slow to work with (laggy ui), slow to render and sometim

I was intrigued enough by your description to try this out. The video demo is great and very convincing. But using the app is a pain because of horrible defaults. First, the scroll area is much bigger than the document I'm looking at.

It's a shame it's not an option for the preconfigured version. Especially as the DIY Laptop pricing has Windows 10 at ~$200.

Re-read the Assassin books recently afte revering them/Hobb as a kid. They're still good but I found plenty to critique this time around. Like, Fitz receives constant physical and emotional abuse from everyone around him but he re

This piece feels very long and navel-gazey and sorely in need of an editor. I miss the essays where Paul Graham gets to the point.

It's true that some review papers are shallow but it's pretty cynical to paint all contributions of this type with the same brush. In my experience, good review papers are more than summaries. They can connect separate lines of re

From the description of the backend: > Clean geojson to remove dark pathways. Doesn't this eliminate routes with tradeoffs? e.g., cutting through a small park or alleyway may not be so risky (the other end is visible, both ends are

Do your keyboard media keys work? One of the biggest gripes I had with i3 is things like volume, brightness, mute and so on. It's possible to configure everything to work again of course, but very painful. Other system related things t

I went down the same road last year and many of the suggestions are same I eventually found. I gave up scaling though because it's garbage. The gnome-tweaks solution mentioned in the article works, but it's buggy. Some apps ignor

Except when it doesn't? I had all kinds of frustrations with Mint on a 2019 X1 Carbon which had some newfangled digital microphone. Ubuntu 20.04 worked out of the box. There were a bunch of other frustrations too. Bluetooth never worke

Having a good story isn't about hiding the faults in your work, it's about making your work accessible to others. It's no good having tons of experiments if you can't explain what they mean and why anyone else should car

Buffets are terrible places to eat for a vegan or even vegetarian. Options are typically limited to simple salads, various types of potato (fried, baked) and occasionally pizza or pasta: i.e. cheap tasteless carbs. Besides limited variety,

Do US postal services offer a shipping option where you need to sign for the parcel? I'd try and opt for something like that, if possible, rather than trusting the courier to leave the package on my doorstep. What I'm saying is, t

I regard 3-6 months as pretty good for journals. In CS competitive journals can take a year to reject something. Even if a paper is accepted, and the period of time from submission to publication can sometimes take close to 2 years. CS conf
