Wow commuting from Sacramento to the SF Bay is a thing now? I grew up in the Bay Area (left for College in 2004 and never came back) and that was unheard of at the time. Every time I go back I'm surprised how much has changed.

Development (and lack thereof) is all about how much power the NIMBYs have to stop it. In SF that power seems to be almost absolute in many areas.

I don't have a good answer for why this doesn't happen. However, the fact of the matter is that the wealthy, on the whole, don't naturally redistribute their wealth very effectively.

I actually had posted it with (For Rental Housing) tacked on the end of the title for clarity, but the mods saw fit to remove that part. Omitting the "in the US" part from that was myopia on my part though--we only aggregate data
