I reckon solar is competitive in the day time without storage or peaker plants to support low generation time. I’d love to see the analysis of solar with the built in assumption of burdening the hourly cost with the infrastructure required

Twitter is mostly on their own infra. 1 billion is 25% of total revenue. I think they are close to that spend with cloud but it’s more like 750m if I were to venture a guess.

I tend to think it has just gone into retirement income for private sector. For example a typical teacher may have a pension wort 2 million dollars at age 65, where a private sector worker would be expected to see that by contributing to th

My thought is margin is low on apple but volume is high. They also are a good partner helping to push the process forward. AMD and NVIDIA are probably more profitable than apple for tsmc but volumes are much lower. I also think the ability

I always heard it was an attempt to keep anyone using the rail for carrying cargo or other comercial traffic. They had concerns folks would sabotage their growth in order to resell the lines later.

Credit Karma provided intuit with $475m in revenue for its Q4’22 earnings. Inuit posted a loss but I suspect credit karma was break even or slightly profitable. https://s23.q4cdn.com/935127502/files/doc_financials&

I actually would rephrase it as there weren’t enough users with money to make using email a worthwhile scam medium. Email is low trust and almost any user is susceptible to being scammed, because there aren’t good trust markers in emails, a

I’ve thought about this a lot when it comes to car seats. The paper implies 57 deaths prevented, but I see these stats often turned to a percentage reduction(53% reduction in deaths for example). Then when debated the change in the death as

The oem vendors have been adding weird surcharges for the bmcs to use features. For example hp used to charge(and I assume still does) for remote console. The author mention dell charged for using ntp, which was a little surprising. But, “e

These are justified when looking at the truly elite level. You’re looking for fractional improvements that might add up to a watt or two. Aero frames, internal cables, spandex, are all about things that will make a marginal difference at an

One reason cited for lack of new sequoia growth in the Sierra Nevada is introduction of sheep towards the later period of Spanish colonization, and continued through early 1900s with the US taking over.

A typical server tdp will vary a lot depending on the components buts it’s a safe bet to look at 1u being right around 1000w for a recent Xeon. It’s also the opposite older equipment for servers. There are lower tdps for older equipment and

Around 500 miles; basically Sf to la. That trip is 2.5-3 hours by plane in the best case, and can tick up to 5-6 easily. You also have to figure in rental car etc. That said I’ve spent 10+ hours going from sf to la in a car.

I would venture most toilets in California are 1.6 gallons per flush or less. In 2014 it moved to 1.28 gpf. The replacement cycle has probably caught the majority, but you never know. Drought tolerant landscaping took off in the 1990s, and
