No one is unhappy about that. Post 4.0 frameworks are not that compelling feature-wise.

It's a great idea and still is. Linux does pretty much the same thing. It actually broke because they didn't allow multiple versions and windows linked to the latest version at runtime. They fixed all this with WinSXS which allows a PE file

Correlation does not imply causality. The burden of proof is on the inclusive case. Windows upgrades allow fresh installs so that's rubbish.

Indeed. Our security police means that we have to put our iOS and Macs on the DMZ rather than internal network.

I don't think it's related to Apple at all. I can't believe people are trying to give Apple some credit for it. Two real things: 1) No one ever buys Windows upgrades, so this is a motivator to shift to Win8. Consumers and businesses just bu

That's a bit patronizing. Having dealt with every language under the sun over the last 20 years, PHP still has an as yet unbeatable sweet spot when it comes to getting stuff done.

We've got 135 on site users, 25 mobile users and about 500 windows machines and VMs floating around. We haven't had any machines "owned" at all...

No they are the ones that the politicians send after civilians in other countries.

Granted it's horrible (I agree there), but it does solve a lot of problems rather quickly. I'd argue that it solves the problems in the '00s that Visual Basic did in the 90's. What I'd really like to see is a solution for '10s which fits th

I did that once. Never again. To be honest it didn't take long, which is good because I was being constantly gassed by people's arses.

For me, I'd rather go dedicated or colo at least, simply because I know what the process is when TSHTF and can communicate it reliably to my clients. With black-box cloud services such as AWS, Azure, you just don't know what is happening.

I found the older trains (slam door ones) were more reliable personally. The new "one-piece" techno-trains are always broken or limping. It's a place where adding technology just increases the fail-o-meter rating.

I suffer South West Trains quite regularly. This is all spin over an utter turd of a service (Twitter included as it's useless and about as real time as tea leaf readings) SWT reality trip: a) Their staff are rude. The amount of times I've

You are the only reasonable voice on the matter I've heard so far. Infinite upvotes from me. We all know PHP has its shortcomings, but there appears to be a witch hunt going on here.

It doesn't make any difference. It required 3.5 as win7 shipped with that framework. You may actually have 3.5 installed already. Check for the following dir: c:\windows\Microsoft.net\framework\v3.5 If it's there you have it already.
