Just because it's next to the device doesn't mean it'll induce current in that position or at the right frequency to generate audible noise. Testing is much harder than that. I bet someone will build a clone and find out the hard way.

There is nothing wrong with making money as long as in the process you do not hurt anyone directly or indirectly. The latter is hard if not impossible which is where the system breaks.

Slight fact check here: Apple had nothing to do with ARM until it was well established. It was designed and built independently and was on the market for years first as a coprocessor add-on for the BBC and as a standalone workstation (Archi

FGS I don't ever use the start menu other than to pin my apps to the start bar the first time they are installed so get over it. Metro is only in your face if you ask for it. Noise? Remove the damn tiles. I rather like a Big Mac so I'm prob

No it's absolutely fine. Once activated, it's pretty much 100% ok if you move it around. It used to be an issue in Vista days but no longer - they have relaxed most requirements.

I bet that is noisy as fuck. Long traces and no shielding - utter turd. Form should never compromise function.

The underlying API is always going to be POSIX and the ABI is going to be C based which in this age we can do better. Regarding abstraction - there is way too much already. A platform should stand alone and self host be viable, which is imp

Design the architecture again. It's surprising what you can fit in an FPGA these days. I'm convinced the entire hardware and software stack is broken and we need to start listening to people like Chuck Moore a bit more.

Another repurposed Linux system. I'd rather like to see a fresh start and some new ideas.

Oh I agree entirely. The real problem lies further up the stack - is UNIX the right solution?

That's what happens when you buy a handset tied to the network. You will get fucked. In the UK, we can get SIM-free devices which have no network customisation or tie in. They update to the latest WP release fine. In my case, 139 GBP (~$22

I'll back you up. I've owned 2 HTC Android handsets and 2 iPhones. I'm currently using a Nokia Lumia 710. Impression: it's orders of magnitude better. Everything just works - can't find a single bug, it integrates nicely with everything, it

Probably very little change. MS are pretty good with API stability. I'm using the same .Net APIs as 2002 in a current LOB application.

Get a Windows Phone - it will ask every time it does everything if you want. It's "opt out" by default which is more than I can say for Android or iPhone.

Apple build quality is terrible. Why: You can't remove the battery without a screwdriver. That's dangerous, especially with LiPoly cells. We had a 2010 MacBook Pro which had an electrical fault on the logic board which caused a fire with no

Well that's a load of shit. They screwed you for $59!!! 1/ I've never bought Windows. I tend to buy new hardware when it comes along every 2-3 years (which is the typical lifespan of any hardware regardless of brand/vendor). 2/ And I didn't

Seriously - 5Gb in 2012? For any Windows users, just use SkyDrive and Windows Live Mesh - it works wonderfully, is very reliable and has a decent TOS which respects user privacy and your data. You get 25Gb for free, OneNote (which rocks),
