I love guilds. I know the article mixes the term with unions, but they are truly different. For a union the primary weapon is withholding of labor by many (replaceable) individual members. Guilds however do not need large numbers to be powe

Every idea looks simple and obvious in hindsight. When a small business has an idea it is their whole world. They think about it day and night and have to constantly improve upon it or die. A small idea can sustain a small business. A small

I use F.lux because they are the little guy, and first to this market by a long shot. Getting Sherlocked [1] by the big players after years of original work on a project is terrible. Lots of small businesses (or projects for that matter) is

Interesting you mention that. A lot of recent focus has gone into support for gamers. There was some effort to augment high end mice by taking a high DPI high sample rate and turning it into a smoother signal, while still being responsive.

Sahil, who's a HN user here, gets the credit for that minimalist payment form design. Gumroad is my payment processor. It gets a lot right and allowed for product launch to happen about three months earlier than it would have otherwise

That's my secret sauce, however a RESNA[1] publication[2] a few years back seems to have done a bit of reverse-engineering on the old SteadyMouse 1 free version if you are interested. [1] https://www.resna.org/ [2] http

Thanks for the apt feedback. The journey to make the site and product more immediately intuitive and understandable for the elderly is ongoing. I hope to eventually incorporate much of the guidance here [1]. The software itself does have lo

Admittedly, I have work to do there. Changing to a Responsive design is high on the TODO list.

Aww shucks! Founder here. Can't say I expected this to hit the front page today. SteadyMouse[1] has been a labor of love the past several years. It actually started as a bit of a hobby project after my grandfather was diagnosed with Pa

A tremor disruptor! Very cool idea. It might work well together with SteadyMouse with the bracelet disrupting the tremor from "getting going" and SteadyMouse taking out the remainder.

My grandfather has Parkinson's disease and the hand tremors that go with. This makes using a mouse nearly impossible because the cursor flies all over the place. I created free software called SteadyMouse[1] back in 2005 to remove this

I'd really love to have a uBlock Origin/AdBlock type of program to maintain my phone's calling number blacklist. eg: If more than X Android users block a number it should block automatically for everyone. Guessing the blackli

Metal is too expensive still. Next step is porcelain. I made one prototype so far. It failed because the glazing process "puffed" the surface out of acceptable tolerance. I plan to inversely deform the mesh to compensate for this

I'm an amateur at this part, but I've reason to believe it's fine. The material is a Nylon plastic. "Polyamide PA 2200" according to ShapeWays. This link[1] has details on the material when used with laser sintering

About once per month. I purposely set expectations low by saying it may take a little sanding. That lets me over-deliver since it's usually a perfect fit. Also, ShapeWays has a decent refund policy and customer service for stuff under

Hmm, it's my own custom design and not a copy of Breville's. The blade geometry is especially different. Is that the angle you were thinking of?

Breville coffee grinders are impossible to get internal parts for. I designed a 3D printed upgrade for the main wear-part in their BCG800XL SmartGrinder. The storefront is through ShapeWays[1] and I use ifixit[2] to drive the traffic. It&#x

At the full blown materialist end there's another big problem though: Are you just a cloud of ever changing atoms mistaken for a person? Since almost none of the atoms from your childhood remain in you now, are you actually the same in

How does one prove this "Mediocrity Principle"? "Specialness" is in the realm of philosophy and from that perspective, this principle just comes across as a mellow form of nihilism. Telling students to filter all of scie
