I'd like to add something to this: we like to believe that we are immune to advertising, but we aren't. No matter how much self control and self awareness we may think we have. The consequences may not be as grave as they look at

I agree, and I'm pretty sure there is a correlation between those two axes, although there are a lot of subtleties that can make someone prefer dynamic+SQL or static+NoSQL. Speaking for myself, I'm completely in the static+SQL cam

This is why Java is used widely. It works . It works well . And this is also why Java is great for huge systems (not in terms of users, disk space or bandwith, but in terms of code size). The same can be said about a lot of "old"

This looks like an employee acting on her own, thinking (wrongly) that the account was not active and nobody would notice if she took over the username. Still, it's a disturbing issue that shouldn't have been allowed to happen, so

Thank you, this really had to be said. You can do C in C++ (and if you do that, chances are that you're doing it wrong), but you can't do C++ in C. The ugliest and unsafe parts of C++ are invariably those coming almost untouched

Aside from the taboo and the (heavily, if not completely, cultural) disgust, I have to say that I've never liked seafood (prawns and such, but also oysters, clams, etc), and this is the main reason I'm not willing to eat insects;

Sorry, this is simply false. The only reason the poor value the physical work is that, often, it's the only immediate source of income they have (and they're much more desperate for an immediate source of income). As much as we li

I think that this may be mostly an American thing. This is why in Europe we have better social systems (national health, etc): generally, we don't think the poor are people who fucked their lives up, we think that they're mostly u

Easy, just set a number of traits for each company/product and let the user decide what doesn't they want to buy. Add info about country of origin, political affiliation of owner, or things like that, and you have a nice tool for

And it's far easier to prove: 1!=1, (n+1)!=n!·(n+1), thus 0!=1!/1=1.

But 1+1=0 or 1+1=1 happens because you are redefining the operator + (sometimes subtly, like using it over Z2), so what rickhanlonii said still holds. 1+1 is 2 if you're using the usual definition of sum, i.e., addition over integers

TBH I still find it very ugly, but then again I've disliked flat design since the first moment I've seen it. I know I'm pretty much a caveman (and a minority) in this sense, but I really like the old, classic, sober windows 9

This is what Bertrand Russell advocated about 100 years ago. But he thought of a sane society where the productivity was split between everyone so we got more leisure instead of unemployment.
