I do find the article interesting. However I tend to agree with this comment - is this 'Hacker News'worthy? I especially object to the downvote on this post - I think downvoting shouldnt be used unless the post is clearly offensive. It thin

I was going to say cut-n-paste your blurb... [so you get keywords] But then it occurred to me that maybe doing cut and paste from webpage A to webpage B is a missing feature. I dont think microformats or frames answer this need well. It see

We can criticize the delivery.. but given the popularity of the thread, I think the OP is making a valid point. I have written location-aware iPhone native apps, and if I had an open-source alternative to Big5 then, I probably would have us

Wouldn't the popularity and success of flash games be a counter argument? Admittedly not for 3D intensive games. But maybe flash+browser will catch up with 3D. Only a year ago RaphealJS was magic.

The demos look good, although I think the 12.99 price is going to rule it out, because at least initially its too much to pay in order to use one app. For such a critical component, youd really want something open source [and free as in bee

It doesn't sound like your lost.. it sounds like you know you have to make a change. Its risky, but not doing it is ruining your life, so you know you have to do it. It really sounds like your strong on HN because you've known this for a wh

Whats a one liner to describe the Y-Combinator to someone new to FP? 'An generic implementation of a fixed point attractor' Hmm.. not quite it. um.. 'DSEL's ? no-one calls them that.. 'DSL' has taken hold, although overloaded somewhat [eg g

Scoopler.com seems very usable... live search is a feature google doesn't have, and would be slow to adapt to. Thinking about how I normally google.. I tend to browse clusters of linked information, in a sequence of relates searches/refinem

Nice link. Frustrating to have to login to ACM to read McCarthys - 'A micro-manual for LISP - not the whole truth' Thankfully, found this hidden away at [pdf d/l link] : http://www.ee.ryerson.ca/~elf/pub/misc/micromanualLISP.pdf

I guess I kind of did because there's a lot of hyped titles, so I tend to filter them out. But you're right, we can take ourselves a bit seriously on HN.

This makes me vocalize something Ive wondered about... Whats the smallest subset of lisp which you need to implement in order to bootstrap the language? So, given this small subset, one can implement the rest of say scheme or common lisp o

Well your coming to that realization 15 years earlier than I did. I developed commercial apps in C/C++ and only recently have discovered lisp and other related languages, and just find them to be much more enjoyable to think and hack in. I

This reads like a badly organized blog post, without the personal touch. Given the event has resolved in some way, Id expect this article to summarize clearly the whole saga thus far with some perspective or insight. It points to earlier ar

Well 'should be in rapheal.js' comes across a bit strong... I meant : it seems a good kit, you've probably heard of it.

Thanks. disclaimer : I'm a radical graph data, noSQL proponent, so you had me at 'edge', however... The only thing that I care about on that page is the graph. Id like to see just that graph, but prefetched, fluid interactive javascript. N

It is a minor sadness that Bram didn't choose a lisp as the vim macro language. But I still love vim...although Ive forgotten more bindings than other editors have features.

The article starts with a description/definition of 'key-value stores' vs 'document stores'... but doesn't clarify the difference, if any. When people say 'NoSQL', that doesn't preclude another kind of query language... I assume NoSQL to me

Just the value in getting div positions / sizes would sell the product. I'd like to see some completed mockups as examples, to lead me gently into the try-it-out phase.

I'm of the firm opinion 'software' should never appear in the same sentence as 'manage' or 'engineer'. Any good survival books on 'Hacking your Manager' for those passing temporarily through the corporate underworld towards their first star

No, I didnt mean to imply that, not least because we have no good way of measuring intelligence. One reasonable way to get a ballpark is to look at brain fold anatomy - I assume that's what EQ quotient in the OP is roughly equivalent to. Ra
