We have a dual Ethernet ARM (looks like beaglebone black) in the works. https://twitter.com/gonzopancho/status/737918774582579200

I know he's Austrian, and I can't help that it sounds "quite racist". It's how people referred to him at Acorn, then ARM. I worked with a number of them at Tadpole during the early-mid 90s, and got to meet Hauser on

The in-development version of pfsense allows installs to ZFS, and I've installed onto a 2c atom with 2GB ram and a small SSD. But it's not as performant as UFS on the same hardware.

Nice work! We'll look into including this in pfsense 2.4.

> CPU/RAM overhead is insignificant with a bgpd like BIRD or Quagga. They work for internet-scale routing (currently over 610,000 prefixes) with trivial load. An Atom C-series with a few GB of RAM can deal with internet BGP routing

Netmap-fwd on an atom is faster than your edge router. And yes'm pfsense is getting some netmap/dpdk love. I am the owner of Netgate (company behind pfsense) And your figures ar full of shit. I do 1gbps on a 2.4GHz Atom

Both can. You can disable hw CSUM for dpdk, and netmap doesn't yet support it.

Netmap is in GENERIC now. Netmap will work over any NIC now, but not at speed. For all the speed gains, you need netmap support in the driver(s) you want to use.

It doesn't take $1k of hw to run pfsense at 1gbps. I have 1gbps / 1 gbps in Austin, own the company behind pfsense, and run just fine on a 4 core Atom.

We ran Netgate.com from Hawaii from 2004 to 2011, when we moved (back) to Austin for high school for our son. He just graduated. Maybe I'll get back to Oahu in 5 more years.

My son attends LASA in Austin. His calc teacher has a 97% rate for his students scoring a 4 or 5 over 15 years. This includes a few students who didn't take the test. (My son got a '5' on the BC calc AP.)
