They're a little disingenuous about this. You can compare the pop-up language Apple shows for an app like FB and the one they show for their own personalized ads to see what I'm talking about. They've also run misleading ads

Probably more like general magic - lots of hype, promised more than what they could actually do. What they made was underwhelming and poorly timed. AR makes sense if the hardware is possible, I’m not sure we’re there yet.

Except for the times it’s not. C was invented at some point too. Nock and Hoon serve a purpose and exist for a reason.

It's a serious project: https://zalberico.com/essay/2022/09/28/tlon-urbit-computing-... There's a lot of weird marketing, but it's a real thing.

Reading these it makes me wonder if they know about Urbit - it’s so much of what Jack wants that I’m really curious if he just doesn’t know about it.

Yeah - YouTube is one of the few services that actually allows you to pay to escape the ads. If you value that, pay for it (I do). This doesn't free you from "sponsored content" from the creators themselves, but that's g

This is kind of my whole confusion about the Framework module thing itself. The repairability and linux support of the device is very cool. The easy upgrade internals and well labeled bits are very cool, but the external modules seem kind o

Citizen's United is a more nuanced issue when you read about the legal arguments (maybe you have, but often people don't know the details). I had seen a lot of people say negative things about it, but when I read about it I though

I'd argue this is more about defaults. Speech defaults to free and is well protected with extremely rare/narrow exceptions, violence defaults to controlled. Some forms of violence of private citizens are not illegal (self-defense)

CSAM is an extremely narrowly carved out exception by the Supreme Court (for good reasons imo) and there were arguments about even that at the time. There are also some other restrictions too (mostly around targeted harassment of individual

The issue is that when we abandon the general principle it immediately becomes a question of what speech is ok to ban and this can be weaponized by rivals. People always imagine themselves or people they agree with in the position of determ

Not only that but Apple’s only matched hashes of known CSAM kept in the NCMEC database. Google meanwhile scans for algorithmically determined new content and ruins people’s lives without any ability to appeal (even after national news cover

Small Fry was written by his first daughter and I thought it was great, but sad. If you’re in Palo Alto it also talks a lot about the specific streets and stuff so that was fun.

Don’t do it at some later date, do it right after. Just ship the low risk fix first. Otherwise if you’re not careful phase 1 never happens either.

I’m 0 for 2 so far trying to get stuff built with nix working on an M1 machine (for open source projects that use it). Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but my personal experience with it so far has been bad.

It sounds like you know more about this stuff than I do - I’ve spent hours searching online but it’s hard to find good info. Why are mics like the SM7b better than mics like the MV7 or elgato one that just work over usb? I don’t understand

Also required for fancy remote work from home microphone setups. If you want the Shure SM7B you need an audio interface (and probably also a cloud lift or dynamite to bump up the gain). Lots of streamers, podcasters, youtube people use them

Thanks for this - it's rare to see a setup guide that actually works on each step! I did need to run the troubleshooting step too, could probably just move that up as a required step in the guide.
