Sorry for the late reply, I agree with the others. If this truly was an environmental initiative, Sonos would rather take a proof of receipt of you giving your previous speaker to an e-waste recycler or even giving away to some place like G

Good bet. See recent criticism here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21895086 "Sonos's “recycle mode” intentionally bricks devices so they can't be reused" Fuck this kind of masquerading profit hung

IMHO this is because of SEO. Whatever algorithms search companies make, those who exploit them (called SEO, whatever the hat color is) will have an advantage over those who don't.

Yeah... I'm doing the same for Deezer (paying for listening to streaming music) but I only use Youtube occasionally. Got fed up when YT showed 2 ads every 20 minutes in the middle of a classical music concert. I'm not expecting it

I've been using Firefox for the last 10 or so years. (Used the "new Chrome-Opera" for a while but went back soon) These recent developments are awesome. As a frontend developer, I also find the devtools absolutely competitive

Then Oslo is making great progress! Ideally, every modern city should nudge residents away from cars and towards other means of transport by offering better alternatives. The 'car and parking for everyone' model has failed, just l

Just one comment, large cars are not necessarily safer, and small cars can be safe, too. SUVs are not only notorious for their awful gas mileage but also how unsafe they can be for the pedestrian or other car they hit if they do.

Just look at the huge traffic fatality rate in the USA despite the 'safe' SUV trend. Better roads & infrastructure (which lead to less car use and slower traffic), driver education, enforcing traffic laws do help though.

Saying this is saying like "why do we need architects to design houses if all of them are just four walls and a roof?" Software engineering is not that different from mechanical or civil engineering or whatever other kinds of it.

I agree with that - "let's build (n+1) library' that nobody will care about later is not very effective :)

Good question - where do "learning exercises" end and "useless amusement projects" start? If I want to learn a new language I might do some fun exercises or hit an online course or a book, both of which contain lots of &

Why? This is just slippery slope arguing. Two-way bound data is a huge leap in framework complexity. They require Zone.js stuff in Angular and use of ES2015 Proxies in Vue.js. React has neither of these. Hooks is basically a different synta

This makes sense, although having a great and a crappy job is a wide scale, with most people probably being in between somewhere. And switching jobs is not just about offers. In my experience, looking for a (good) job takes a lot of time an

Nice! Would probably use it when looking for a job next time, although this would be in 2-3 years... This could make your life hard, too... Unless you could sell this data to headhunters, HR companies, agencies etc. :troll:

Good point - though in order for any kind of research to be valuable, statisticians have probably controlled for such stuff. (They already had to control for population demography - sex, race, education - why not for time of year?)
