One of my favorite games when I was a kid was Captain Goodnight by Broderbund. Apple II game. I loved the musical score to the intro so much that I wrote a (snail mail) letter to their HQ asking for the musical score to the intro music.

I'm not sure I feel the same way, and I will probably be downvoted for it. Microsoft's entire existence is largely based on incredibly aggressive, (perhaps) unethical behavior against its perceived rivals. FUD, threats of litigat

Google has 7 different products with over 1 billion users [1]. This "brand problem" you speak of, if it exists at all, doesn't seem to have slowed them down much. [1] http://www.popsci.com/google-has-7-produc

Twitter is not as big as Facebook, but it is not a niche service in the sense that Reader was. Twitter has 300M worldwide users and can count as users most global celebrities, politicians, artists, and journalists. People that make news.

The "Scroogled" era wasn't that long ago either. Unbelievably embarrassing. Nor the stealing of Google's search results. I'm not ready to bless Microsoft yet.

LinkedIn is not profitable. They lose money every quarter. Revenue is around $800-900MM a quarter though.

This article is from 2014. A few things have changed since then. For example, Google now does offer ads in the Play Store: http://adwords.blogspot.com/2015/07/launching-search-ads-on-...

A video service hosted in Russia or China would have it's own problems. No freedom of the press in either country, and lots of issues with free speech. Any video critical of Putin or Xi Jinping would likely be taken down. Hard to op

Many people use browsers for the vast majority of their computing tasks (email, facebook, word processing, etc). Chrome handles this easily without the burden of general OS maintenance.

I've never heard the regional "apetite" broken down like that before. But it feels right. I'd love to see some numbers/more data on this regional mindset.

Secrecy is great for Microsoft when it's in the form of extorting Android OEMs with bogus patents for billions of dollars a year. Or copying Google's search results. But not when complying with government data requests. Got it.

Google's AI beats go champions. Microsoft's AI turns into a racist genocidal maniac.
