The free account is severely crippled. To seriously side load your own apps, you need a paid account. And I think that’s a travesty!

In principle, yes, but for some reason it really bothered me to have to give Apple $100 just to install some open source software on my iPad. I’d much rather have given that money to Nicolas who spent immeasurable effort trying to work ar

Not really. Apps that are signed with a free account expire after 7 days, which makes the free side loading pretty much useless. With a paid account, they work indefinitely.

The upcoming version of Blink has some pretty awesome keyboard-based selection/copy/paste: you still tap and hold for the initial selection, but then that selection can be expanded with keyboard shortcuts

Yeah, I've had to disable all keyboards except the main (English) one because hitting the globe key accidentally was so frustrating. For Emoji, I'm using an app called Symbols which allows be to copy/paste them (yay for multi

I do, but it's useful mostly with the addition of shell utilities from Nicolas Holzschuch's fork [ https://github.com/holzschu/iVim ]. At the moment, this still requires sideloading (with a paid Apple Dev accou

Isn't Lyft a competitor in almost every market? Personally, I always check both Lyft and Uber to see which is cheapest (and wait for a little while, to see if they price fluctuates)

I'm a theoretical physicist, and the iPad Pro with pencil definitely beats paper for me: I can my move things around, copy and modify an equation, and correct mistakes much more easily. Also, I don't lose notes and I can organize

Yeah, but I'm not archiving for the German or Swiss government. For scanned handwritten notes, JBIG2 still beats out anything else by an order of magnitude at least

In terms of compression for scanned notes, I haven't found anything that comes close to what even an older version of Adobe Acrobat yields, due to the use of the JBIG2 codec. Has anybody found any way to compress PDF files with JBIG2 o

I often like to write out programs by hand (in some sort of pseudocode or whatever language I'm currently using) on "paper", except that "paper" is GoodNotes on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. The benefit is that

I haven't updated to High Sierra, but this would be very worrying. Can other people confirm whether or not a Yubikey is working for gpg on High Sierra? I did find this: https://www.yubico.com/support/knowledge-base

Sure, Mathematica has had a long head start. I don't see the gap widening at all, though. For me, e.g. SymPy (and more specialized algebra systems for e.g. quantum mechanics I've built on top of it) now match and sometimes surpass

That's more a restriction of Python, though. It's important to remember that the Jypter Notebook (and now, JupyterLab) is language agnostic. The Julia language, for example, is very well integrated into Jupyter (which, in fact, is

No, all source code lines should be max 80 columns wide, always. That way, you can put a well-defined number of editor panes next to each other on the screen (3 columns on a 16:9, 2 columns on a 4:3). You're also able to print out snip
