I did this. Left a cushy corp job a few years ago, then worked on my own startup for 3 years. While we had some small funding, we could only pay ourselves very little salary (almost below livable standards for bay area, cutting into savings

It has been tricky installing Linux on the Lenovo Ideapad 720s and I wanted to write down all the research I did to get it working. It was also my first time playing with an Arch-based distro (Antergos) and it has been fun. Hope someone wil

I was a cofounder of a struggling startup for 3 years and probably one of the things that helped the most was a commitment that once a week, I meet with my band and we practice music. I play guitar and sing. It's mostly a non-negotiabl

I'm currently in the bay area, and I've always thought that in a scenario you describe, moving to Sacramento makes a lot of sense. (curious to see the thoughts of HN on this topic) You're still close enough away from the bay

One of my favorite things about the GitHub editors by far is easy image embedding. You can drag an image file into the textarea and it handles uploading it, and then puts in the correct markdown code for embedding that image. In fact, I con

Wow, this is eye-opening. The amount of guns and other weapons found by TSA is insane. If this post wasn't on tsa.gov I would've thought it's a joke post. How do this many people think they can get past TSA with all this?

Hi all, author here. Very much work in progress, and credits to github/wilsonpage who created the original project and I found it and forked/built on top of it. I've been working with React for the past year+ and can see the

There was a thread about interviewing, someone talking about how hard interviewing was and failing dozens of them even as a senior engineer. (there is a thread about that once every month or two, indeed) A commenter responded saying somethi

There are probably many factors you have to adjust along the way to achieve it -- possible, but not without effort. If you live in a place with $700/mo rent, I imagine you probably also live in an area that doesn't pay the kind of

Isn't the fine of violation 20mil Euro or 4% annual rev, whichever is higher ? That could put any side projects (or even small startups) out of business, no?

I feel similar to both OP and you; especially when first learning React a year ago. I feel like the only real way to learn it is to get a job where you work with React full time, and after a few months you will finally get comfortable with

I agree somewhat, I've always wondered if the "work out instead of coffee in the morning" is a myth people like to spread, because I never feel like that myself. In the morning, my energy level is simply not high enough, and

I think the idea is instead of having 1 user pay you $30 a month, you have 10 users (or more) paying you $3 a month, you end up with a net win (even at equivalent of $30 a month of revenue because now you've had more eyeballs). The pro
