I’ve been disappointed with Apple’s response to kernel bugs for quite a while. Closing a large number of ptys at once caused a panic for years . In high Sierra, there’s this, statfs hangs, and proc_pidinfo hangs.

3.1.1 is well tested. Everyone should upgrade. If you find regressions they'll be my highest priority.

Yep. I'll put that out tonight.

Given the level of concern, I will change the default and release a new version right away.

Thanks for the response. I have beat my head against a wall for months trying to get to the bottom of this. I already tried and abandoned using multiple threads within drawRect:, and I agree there is a global lock :). For the case I benchma

I'm home and was able to run some benchmarks. Looks like 3.1 has significantly better latency than 3.0 did, although there's still room for improvement to reach Terminal's performance. My test results are here: http:/&#

A high quality GL renderer would be lovely. It would need to be very capable, and a lot of the time core text spends is on layout rather than rendering, but at least for the plain-ASCII case this would be a huge win. OTOH, it would always l

It uses ligature level 1. fi, etc., are level 2. Try a font like FiraCode to see ligatures on mostly punctuation like ==.

Nope, they use core text, same as me. And they do support ligatures, if the font has them. 1ms delay sounds like a reasonable heuristic.

iTerm2 author here. I'll spend some time looking into iTerm2's latency. I'm sure there are some low-hanging fruit here. But there have also been a handful of complaints that latency was too low—when you hit return at the shel

Terminal dispensed with NSScrollView and I think that won a performance advantage in rendering. It's hard to do if you're not Apple. They also modulate the refresh rate based on load, which 3.1 adds. They're using Core Text w

Triggers were super slow in 2.x but are much faster in 3.0. Try it again if it's been a while.

Would you mind filing a bug? The next version is focused on hotkey window improvements and this is very easy to fix. I'm away from my machine now or I'd do it myself. Thanks! ITerm2.com/bugs

I use a setup like this and it's the only reason I can keep working. The price seems high, but it's nice that it can convert to a standing desk. It's hard to believe that it will become popular, though.

I couldn't get this to work reliably. The tty messed with cr and lf characters unpredictably. I'm curious if you found a way around this issue.

For historical reasons almost all users are on the beta track. I'm working to improve the situation but this is tantamount to a stable release.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. GFA-Basic on the Atari ST was such a step up from what preceded it. Hats off to the maintainer for keeping it going all these years later!

Issue search has a lot of room for improvement. All terms in the search query must occur consecutively.

You can make a window without a title bar now, if that's what you mean. It's one of the window styles in Prefs>Profiles>Window.

I want the first "stable" release to be 3.0.0, which is lexicographically before 3.0.0-beta. Admittedly this is only a limitation of Sparkle, but I just haven't prioritized modifying Sparkle above fixing real bugs.

Accepting donations is about as far as I'd go with trying to monetize free software. If I were looking for a lifestyle business I might take a try at selling support for it or selling some kind of related SaaS.
