It's easy to accidentally ship a minimum version requirement that is out of date when you also consistently use lock files pinned to newer versions. The code may silently depend on something introduced in a newer version pulled in by

I cannot shake the feeling that this is actually a misfeature that will get people into trouble in new and puzzling ways. The isolated classloaders in Java and the assembly domains in .Net didn't turn out to be very bright ideas and fr

That term definitely applies to any demo that behaves differently than previously observed - subtly implying that the demo setting has something to do with it.

The hardware is evidently capable of running all of this. However, I believe that the algorithmic side wasn't fully fleshed out at that time. I'm not going to sift through old computer graphics papers, but the Amiga 500 came out a

This is just the general behavior of truncating strings by code point when they contain decomposed glyphs. This can also impact accents etc.

Vulkan is quite similar DirectX 12. Done concepts transfer directly. For memory allocation, you can use a library called vma to assst you. It takes care of a few stupid edge cases that the Standard accunulated over the years and is quite po

Randomly truncating words can have the same effect in any language. It's outright trivial to find examples in English or German. I don't understand why one has to invoke Arab script for a good example.

AFAIK, it used to be that parts binning was used to sort parts by tolerance. So the 5% bin wouldn't include <1% parts because those were already selected into the 1% bin in the factory and so on. Is it still like this?

Conversely, there is only so much you can do with fat oily fingers on a screen. Finger input has poor precision. Also, you cannot expect a user to operate a vertical touch screen for many hours. Our human upper body isn't built for thi

I try to remember how the general demise of OK/ cancel buttons came about. There was a time when almost all of the more complex tools in an application would use modal dialog boxes without an ability to preview the result before the us

Wow, this is just doubling down condescension again, while insinuating laziness baselessly. I resent that, especially when it is about a language that has parts that were intentionally designed to yield hard to read code.

How is this a an appropriate answer to a (not totally baseless) complaint about bad developer ergonomics? GP didn't say how hard they tried learning rust. This comes off as needlessly condescending.

Conversely, trying too hard to DRY when requirements at call sites start to diverge can lead to an unnecessary complex single implementation of something where there could be two very similar but still straightforward pieces of code.

If template instantiations use up AST node identifiers (I don't know whether whether they do), I can see scenarios where crazy amplified template instantiation chains can eat substantial chunks of that range.

There are a few differences between the Outer Space Treaty and AI regulation: it was easy back than to have a good idea what having a military base on the moon would lead to. On one hand, AI research is moving fast and we don't know wh
