Exactly. There is no such thing as 'objective' journalism, even if the facts of a piece of reporting are correct, there is still an enormous degree of subjectivity in choosing what to report in the first place or what to emphasise

explanation is important but its unreasonable to expect someone to do it on the spot in a time-pressured environment. Often you have to go away and think about it alone in order to come up with a good way of explaining things to others.

Completely agree. Being mentally drained and physically drained are completely different things. I personally think we need a balance of physical and mental pursuits in our lives to be truly healthy. Anecdotally, my insomnia has improved ma

Jeez I wish I could survive on 6 hours sleep. I need at least 8 to feel fully refreshed. I can survive on 7 for a day or two but after that it catches up with me in a bad way. Any less than 7 and I feel like absolute death.

yep- far too many libraries. Matplotlib, seaborn, bokeh, plotly, altair, ggplot2, vega, now this. And each library covers about 90% of your use cases on its own but you're constantly having to switch to another one for the remaining 10

The social sciences don't work like the hard sciences though. And the primary reason for this is because humans, unlike say, atoms or molecules, are not independent objects. They are subjects with agency and can react and change their

I feel like you're being a bit precious. If someone asks you 'hey, can you help out with this', and you respond 'no not right now i'm busy', that knocks you out for half an hour to the rest of the day ??? FWIW

It's just that, a request. You are not obliged to help people straight away if you are deeply engaged in something. In fact most people are polite enough to not ask if it's clear you are busy. But if you're not, having access
