The title reminds me of an arguably-even-closer-to-bird mode I rigged up for a fun conference exhibit at UCL years ago, using the Google Earth browser plug-in and a Kinect (linked via Processing and Websockets). We called it Pigeon Sim. Vid

I run one most of the time (IKEv2). I'm in the UK, and do it on principle to stop my ISP storing details of every domain I visit on behalf of government agencies. If I were in the US I'd do it to prevent my ISP selling that data o

Nuclear power is cost prohibitive. How about: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-36160368 ? For the cost to be prohibitive, it only really needs to be dearer than an alternative that's at least as good. That alt

BA flew them London - Paris for a short while early on. It was kind of ridiculous, not least because embarking/disembarking such a big plane took about as long as the flight.

Another option here is DNS servers that block ads. I can't vouch for the company itself, but I have found AdGuard DNS reliable and effective, if not memorable: 176.103.130.130, 176.103.130.131 https://adguard.com/en

Absolutely agree. I was hoping the XR would work for me, but I went to the Apple Store to try it and it's just far too big for my (reasonably big) hands. So now I have to pay lots more for a phone whose main feature is that it's s

A way round this, of course, is a VPN. Which is also a handy way of using an ad-blocking DNS service everywhere. My setup is documented here: https://github.com/jawj/ikev2-setup

I just came across this and started using it for the DNS servers for my IKEv2 VPN (see https://github.com/jawj/IKEv2-setup ). Experience so far has been excellent — especially the speed of web browsing on my iPhone).

Yes and no. Policymakers too rarely do anything to show they care about distributional impacts, but you could certainly arrange things so as to fix this. Why not impose a tax that doubles the cost of energy, and use all of the proceeds to f
