I had always heard that C was ill-suited for 6502 targets because of the way the language uses registers and the stack.

By sending manufacturing jobs overseas for decades, America sold out blue collar families so that the rich could get richer. After if/when AI will do the same to middle-class white collar workers, maybe people will realize that it

I was a proficient C/C++ programmer for DOS and embedded, but found programming apps for Windows to be very overwhelming and tedious. So for a few years there VB was an excellent way for me to build little Windows tools and apps, unti

I took a similar path -- BASIC at home, Turbo Pascal in highschool, Modula-2 in college. Our prof had learned under Wirth and wanted us to use Modula-2 a lot more than we wanted to.

I jumped from an 8-bit Atari to a CGA PC/XT clone and it was surprising how much forward I jumped in power and capability and storage, yet how much -backwards- I jumped in graphics and sound. Those were great lil' machines and ev

Same! My >decade old account was banned in 2023 despite having great karma and a clean track record. I swore the place off and have been much happier and more productive since. I engage with real people on various discord servers inste

I find this to be less unhinged than say TempleOS, but it still seems unnecessary to focus on outdated languages and ancient CPU's. If/when civilization collapses, we will have zero problem scavenging for x86 CPUs.

So did they deprecate the ability to use DALL-E 3 to generate images? I asked the legacy ChatGPT 4 model to generate an image and it used the new 4o style image generator.

Did you also consider the STHS34PF80 sensor? Range is lower (4 meters I think) but it seems to suit needs and is cheaper too.

Cool! I was just looking at how to build something similar using a presence sensor wired up to some flavor of arduino. But I was hoping to keep it 100% local with little-to-no cloud involved.

I once naively believed that us "good guys" have little to fear or to lose by yielding a little privacy for the greater good. Then I grew up and realized that governments routinely fail to wield such power responsibly.

Nine Canadian provinces have larger populations than Wyoming, so add nine extra states and the US has got a deal ... that it will probably regret lol.

I find that I have "less horsepower, but smarter gears", so it kind of evens out. I'm less likely to code until midnight, but more likely to have the problem solved before clocking out at 6pm ;)

20 years ago I got tired of programming day-to-day and became a manager who still dabbles in development. I don't contribute to production code, but I do architecture, prototyping/research, and will roll up my sleeves to help a s

I have definitely found software bugs by wiring up solenoids to act as programmable button-pressers. Unlike junior testers, scripts and solenoids will work 24-hour shifts and never ask for pizza and coke.

This sounds a bit familiar. I used to work at a medium-sized company whose systems were based on COBOL code and Unisys mini/mainframe hardware from the 80's. We even had a person employed as a "tape ape"; thankfully n
