Cool. Like most of Trump's grifts, I wonder which one of his cronies will go to jail when this one eventually implodes?

I just left a project where I architected the system and managed multiple dev teams for two years. The manager who replaced me is doing maintenance and updates with a pared-down team, yet took "principal software architect" as hi

Every time I see a new-ish game released for free on the epic games store or indiegala, I think "bummer, I guess it's still mac and cheese in mom's basement for these guys.

Yup. In Elon's defence (not that he needs or deserves it) -- if I had a bunch of armed and angry folks who wanted to see me dead, I wouldn't want their job made easier thanks to some doofus publicising my location in real-time.

I spent a few weeks in Uruguay this year, and those folks are big on mate. I brought a cup and bombilla back as souvenirs, but they are currently just 'decorative' right now; I haven't used them to drink mate yet.

I chose Rackspace at two different start-ups in the 201X's. I think one of them is still using them, but planning a migration to Azure. Yeah, their 'fanatical' service was really good once upon a time.

I don't think that's true, especially outside the US. I bought my Tesla because it's a really good bang-for-the-buck electric car. My political ideogies are not particularly aligned with Elon Musk's, but that doesn

"Issue alignment" is the thing I hate the most about partisan politics, especially America's polarized two-party system. Why am I expected/forced to vote in a manner that bundles my views on guns, gender/orientation

We just finished a project where we spec'd catphones for a remote rugged data collection system. The Cat42 is based on a mediatek chipset and gave us "meh" performance. BT/BLE was underwhelming compared to other phones.

Not that any time is a good time to be laid off, but being this close to Christmas sucks worse. It'll make shopping and travel and family plans a little more uncomfortable.

I'm fine with Win11, in a "meh" sort of way. For me, it didn't add anything meaningful to Win10, but didn't change or remove anything meaningful either. The biggest hassle in upgrading was having to enable TPM in my

If we already use remote-controlled robots to disarm bombs when it's too risky for a human cop to do it, then why not the same for incapacitating a violent suspect in difficult circumstances?

My college taught us pascal and x86 asm before teaching us C. I think that was perfect because "bookending" it with a high-level language and a low-level one helped put C in perspective nicely. Knowing asm definitely helped to d

As a non-American who lived in the US for many years, it always astonished me that they have so many levels of law enforcement. It would be somewhat hypocritical for America[ns] to call other countries "police states".

Ditto for "C in 1991 on a VAX". But at least my college had the courtesy to teach us asm on a PC before that so that we could appreciate how addressing worked. Plus it helped to demystify pointers in C.
