Interesting, so in general you could construct polygons with 2^n+1 sides?

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but aren't all computations inherently serial? In that a Turing machine performs operations serially?

From o1-mini: To determine which number is larger between 9.11 and 9.9, let's compare them step by step: Understanding the Numbers: 9.11 can be read as "nine and eleven hundredths." 9.9 can be read as "nine and nine tent

In my experience, the best thing about Pandas is how much it made me appreciate using dplyr and the tidyverse. If it wasn't for Pandas, I may not be the avid R user I am today.

Many of the results in the 'agent' literature require several agents and many iterations to produce an output. See some examples here [1]. Getting these results in seconds instead of minutes or hours would be incredible - and wou

Ideally, governments solve problems that are important but that society can't figure out how to solve in other ways. The questions for us are then: - is it important that voting citizens are informed about various issues? - is the mark

PhD students are in training, and replicating a published result is a great training exercise. PhD students ARE paid. But this work won't be prioritized by their PI unless it's also a requirement of the program.

The article hints at this, but not publishing null results (at least in a database - somewhere!) goes hand-in-hand with the replication crisis. An experimental outcome is always a single sample from a distribution of outcomes that you wou

Can you explain this in more detail? Entropy is calculated as a function of a probability distribution over possible messages or symbols. The sender might have a distribution P over possible symbols, and the receiver might have another dist

I felt like I finally understood Shannon entropy when I realized that it's a subjective quantity -- a property of the observer, not the observed. The entropy of a variable X is the amount of information required to drive the observer&#
