Not my area but I get the impression Amazon has done a lot of both of what the above two posts call "good" unprofitability and "bad" unprofitability.

At WWDC 2018, Apple announced that Office, Photoshop, and several other big apps would be coming to/back to the Mac App Store. I found this really interesting because I wondered what had changed, but the companies involved have been ti

In the same way that there's a vast moral gap between causing a creature to panic and causing a kernel to panic, I feel like the word "distress" is acting more evocatively than is necessarily intended here. (But I'm no b

I take that to mean that VP8 works only in WebRTC contexts, i.e. you can't click a VP8 video embedded as normal in an HTML document and have it play. But I haven't tested it myself.

Many (I'd guess most, but I have nothing but anecdotal experience to base it on) people have a non-Apple-hosted email account tied to their Apple ID. Sure, in some cases if someone's iCloud account is compromised, their non-Appl

That could have problems itself if the filesystem action succeeded but then the SQLite commit failed. Transactionality is hard!

To add to the other good answers here: I love its succinctness. The syntax itself is succinct (but still extremely readable) and the pervasive availability of functional-style methods (map/filter/reduce/etc) make it easier to

I've gotten the impression (and that's all it is, could be totally wrong) that Apple's a little hesitant to go all in until ABI stability arrives in Swift 5. Even after that, I doubt they'll do much rewriting of old stuf

Apple is smart to focus in the health niche as there are no other valid reasons an average person would ever need a smart watch in their life. Imagine how nice notifications (and the ability to respond if necessary) are for people who wor

I don't believe you can even get to the pretty watch with swappable faces part without an iPhone to activate it. It's very definitely only for iPhone users — as of now, at least.

This is why I've never really found AirPower to be that compelling of a product, even though I buy lots of Apple stuff. Yeah, it's a pretty nifty technological thing (apparently too nifty!) but … why should I care? I nearly never

It's surprising to me that an easy-to-use set of scripts to do this for you hasn't popped up (to my knowledge). When Apple initially offered the "zero cost but you have to rebuild every week" solution, I was sure there&#
