Thanks. "things useful in a startup" does seem like misleading advice. Because people applying don't yet know what's useful. So it's obvious to me that having won an Olympic medal is super useful, but it's probably not obvious to the appl

That's a good point. You want the signed url to be one-use only. last_changed_password_at is a good solution, and a useful field to keep anyway.

Don't store reset tokens in database, PITA and not scalable. Instead HMAC sign reset URL, using Rails' MessageVerifier class for example. The reset URL should also expire in about a day, so include and sign timestamp as well. And the way w

During OracleWorld keynote, after Oracle bought Siebel, Larry said something like: "there are only 2 useful features in a CRM system - forecasting and analytics - and everything else exists simply to collect data for these features." See i

Acunote is a customer of tarsnap and so am I personally. The professionalism and transparency that you can see in this RFO are a big reason why I use it and recommend it. The quality of the product/solution is the bigger reason. What's not

If anybody says they can predict the future, they are lying. So I can only that we've never charged small teams and right now we have no plans to start. We accept VISA/MC/AMEX (and standard enterprise billing terms for large customers).

I think Asana is a solid product. Their long-term vision seems similar to ours - new category of business software covering all employees who do project/task-oriented work (developers, operations, marketing, product management, legal, etc.

I haven't done a serious competitive evaluation of Liquid Planner so I would hesitate to offer an opinion about them. Much like with a new source control system it take 1-2 solid day to get a feel for a system like this, and your understan

Right, project management software has a ton of niches, and it is also much harder than it seems. It hasn't happened yet, but much expectation is that somebody will be able to consolidate a big chunk of this space. We count on that being

BTW, India requires that only jute bags produced by a protected local industry be used for storage. No plastic or foreign jute. Not surprisingly there are not enough bags. This is contributing to the problem: http://online.wsj.com/article/

Tarsnap pricing is for deduplicated data. You need to divide it by orders of magnitude for a proper comparison. Apples and oranges - what you are doing is on site backup, Tarsnap is offsite. Both are needed.
