How much are cryptocurrencies are used for actual exchange of goods? I.e. for actual shopping and commerce? Because it seems to me that the most prominent group of users are investors and miners; i.e. those who only buy, stack and sell cr

Esperanto is really better-is-better: most of the world today either knows some English or speaks a romance language. Also, the language has a very natural structure to it, an a lexicon that seemingly (I'm not a speaker, but I have so

I didn't know Y2K was that big of a deal! I guess I'll have to read a bit more about it, as it seems to be an interesting topic. Thanks!

I'm guessing that updates for LTS kernel will come later. I don't know if I can update to 4.13.

Yeah ME is a scary thing also. WRT Linux, well my Xubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) is on 4.10 and no new kernels are available to ma ATM. So if they're going to patch my OS, that's probably going to be a backport to that version, not the

Would this entire Meltdown/Spectre thing count as the biggest mess-up of computing history? When yesterday the PoC repo was posted here, the spy.mp4 demo video gave me some chills. And now I can't update my OS before making an i

I like how smart, cool and autonomous a cat is. It's an adventure to teach a dog where to poop, but put the kitten in the sandbox, maybe dip your hand in it for a second, and they just learn it straight away. I had three kittens abou

I kind of doubt it in this case. If a person darted on to the road from behind an object that obstructs the sensors of an autonomous vehicle, in a distance of about a couple meters, slowing down quickly enough is probably not possible (tho

Is this a question that has a legal answer, at least in the US where autonomous vehicles seem to be most in vogue, that what party is guilty in an autonomous vehicle accident? Because in an autonomous vehicle every person is a passenger.

While I upvoted you for the initial part of your comment, I do not support the autonomous car argument, as I can't see how an autonomous car can avoid an accident of the sort cited in the article, namely an object or a person darting i

AFAIK closed em-dashes are the more widespreadly used version, and the fact that they are em-dashes gives away that they indicate no relations among the words they separate. Though this is kind of a bikeshedding problem where people don&#x

Well, kind of. Node was not a general purpose tool as conceived initially. You would write some I/O bound servers in it. And PHP too is not a general purpose tool, it is for writing interactive web pages (in its pre-Web2.0 sense) ea

Node was a very interesting thing back when it started. It was a hack, but a nice kind of hack. You could write some efficient servers with it. But then the community that formed around it, with it the project went berserk.

Targeting POSIX as much as possible is really important if you don't want to force Bash on people, especially with open-source public code. Many OSes don't have Bash in the default install, but many just assume that bash is avail
