You are confounding things here. The actual free and open web is certainly one of the best things ever. But all the app ecosystem we have built on it, the insecure and wasteful universe of web apps, and all the cruft that is created to su

Like anybody was forced to write iOS apps... I'm an undergrad from Turkey and buying Apple hardware is impossible for me (and not really desirable ATM, but that's not the topic). But I don't feel I'm barred entry to th

Vimeo and Youtube are two very different things, like a sniper rifle and a machine-gun is. Vimeo is primarily a video hosting service, whereas Youtube is a publishing hub.

I'm finding out that using Org mode's clocking combined with recurring tasks for long running tasks that should be done in bits helps me progress on them. I've only recently started using it, and seeing since how many days I

I haven't seen one of them advertise online. Online adverts are way different than TV adverts. For one the latter costs way more, if I'm not mistaken. And even if that's not the case, still, those companies have so much mo

Is there a study on the (in)effectiveness of online ad campaigns? Is it or is it not a bubble that drives all this ad publisher to the ad platforms instead of buying ads more directly? I don't know the prices but I can bet buying an

Almost nothing is unusably bad. In VCS space, even SCCS is still better than nothing. CVS is still quite operable, OpenBSD is one of the finest codebases out there and it uses it. I actually agree you that Fossil is not a big improvement

Fossil does solve interesting problems, and has it's practical unique features for some use cases. And even if it didn't, having competition is nice, see clang vs. gcc. I use org mode files for my issues and wiki-like features fo

Tesla has done one really important and useful thing: demonstrate fully electric cars are not only possible, but also feasible. The rest has been a shitshow. They should've focused on range instead. But oh this is one of the compani

You and the other commenter that says the wheel sensor is finicky should somehow contact the investigators (AFAIU that's NTSB). These are really important possibilities that may never be discovered by them.

Thanks. Is having XCode necessary in order to build and publish for iOS (I guess yes)? I don't use apple computers and use linux, so if that's the case I'd need to buy a Mac and XCode to do so, no?
