Really beginning to hate it when the author themselves submits their own article to HN. There should be some sort of insta-ban for submitting your own articles outside of "Show HN" articles.

Except paypal works with money almost exclusively. Thus, it's easy for them to monetize it.

Sorry, but quite honestly it's a low budget wannabe. Daring Fireball is almost a brand name in the Mac power user world. Love him or hate him, most users that are more than mouse clickers on a webpage typically know about the site by now. "

Stupid name. It's more like you're trying to steal some thunder and grab his users. This feels like the "how to get a hit in the App Store" articles. Take someone elses idea and redo it and make lots of money. Rehashing someone elses projec

Oh sorry, I didn't even really consider that part of the deal. Call it a habit I guess for being so unhappy with their mobile division. That said, Windows Phone 7 is much more interesting to me than Android. Honestly, if I had the choice be

That's actually pretty slick. Not sure if other operating systems do something similar already. I know my Macs "sleep" rather than hibernate and are nearly ready immediately upon hitting the power button or flipping the lid open. While that

People should check out Strongspace ( https://www.strongspace.com/ ) Combined with their OS X app it makes a reasonably compelling alternative for mac users. http://blog.strongspace.com/announcing-strongspace-app-for-t...

Quite frankly there's no more reason for "why we moved from SVN to Git" topics anymore. It's been beat to death. Better to keep up while the team is small than to try to move even more people over later and turn into mega-corp still using C

One of the things that is slightly disappointing here is that Starz is the one carrying Torchwood for season 4 here in the US. That said however, I have completely given up on Netflix. I got sick of them years ago when they throttled my dvd

I kinda missed the part where he talked about his latest novel… Zero History was originally published about a year ago (September of 2010) and it is now in mass market paperback. But, when you say "latest" novel it sort of means you're talk

Yikes… I'm finding more and more links coming up on this site that just simply shouldn't be making their way up. This one being yet another. The web is very generational. One day such and such is the greatest thing. Then the next day anothe

Overall I found the blog entry to be lacking any real reasoning why one shouldn't switch or vice-versa. It just feels like a blantant "I want to be on Hacker News" post.

Yea. I love seeing new stuff.. But you have nothing to show. I'm not going to sign up for a site just to see what it does. You really should show users more before forcing them to sign up. Some sites can get away with this, but a finance si

That's kind of what I was trying to say. The fact that "sales" is so bent on selling you stuff instead of getting you the right stuff for what you're trying to do instead is a problem.

Yea. I have two SmartMachines through them. One of the now unavailable 512mb machines and a 1gig. I've been pretty happy with both of them. There are certainly ways they could improve but it's clear that Solaris Zones as a way to do virtual

What if the person doesn't know exactly what it is that they need? I know a lot of people who know software but aren't as solid on knowing how to scale the hardware side. For those people a table isn't really helpful. That said however, it

It could also become a desktop OS of sorts. They were planning on shipping it on their HP computers if I recall correctly. This could mean that they could make that available still for Windows PCs as they had planned. My guess is that your

The really nice thing that I personally like about Hyde is the fact that it is very component based. For example, it uses Jinja2 for templating. Which is extremely similar to Django templates. It really is a nice little setup that let's me

I'm still a lot more impressed with the Python spinoff of Jekyll. It's called Hyde ( http://www.github.com/hyde/hyde ) and in my opinion a LOT more functional. I do wish that the documentation was a tiny bit more complete though. If I were

I really like NearlyFreeSpeech.net for domain registration. I have a few at Gandi that will be moved either to NFS or to Namecheap when renewal time comes up. Gandi is nice and all, but quite a bit more expensive comparatively.

Does anyone have any other guides like this? I'm using Arch Linux and want to run nginx on it. I'd like to make sure it's as secure as I can make it before deploying the website.

It's a nice app... and nicely gimmicky. But I just can't bring myself to use it for more than a few days then it gets all out of date. I guess if you're OCD about books and other items it may have a great use for you, but I feel it's gimmic

Am I reading this right? That Lion Server is included in the normal OS X Lion release? That's pretty awesome if so. Means I'd be willing to fork over the cash for one of those Mac Minis to use for Calendar/Contact syncing instead of using M
