I agree (although I do find ad breaks in text to undermine the content more than visual mediums, for whatever reason). But RSS made tracking very hard. And while I know that's your point (not wanting to be tracked), one reason it works

For what it's worth, and there's lots of reasons this hasn't and won't happen, I think micropayments are the solution here. But until that happens, ads fill a middle ground: users don't want to pay and creators want

Okay bear with me here. We blame the RSS aggregators for the death, which is very fair. But I don't know if blog writers ever supported RSS, either. With RSS, your words are read, which is great. But you lose the ability to control the

Not necessarily! Linux is incredibly complex. AWS is incredibly complex. Next is incredibly complex. GitHub is incredibly complex. We need simple tools and we need complex tools. It's the middle ground that's hard to navigate.

That's the hard part about tools like this. They're too simple to be used for anything important, and as soon as the creator follows that path you end up in a situation where it's too simple for anything complex and too compl

Definitely short and informal. You should have a legitimate reason to email (like, tell the person genuinely why you respect them or what about them you like), and a clear ask if there is one (asking for help, looking for a job, etc). Don&#

I would very much agree with this. If you’re at an offsite and it goes that badly, things probably weren’t solid to begin with.

I think “retreat” is used pretty colloquially and doesn’t imply pseudo-therapy.

I feel like our offsites, especially in a post-COVID remote world, tend to improve communication and productivity. People get to know their coworkers, and feel much more comfortable working cross-functionality. I've had some bad experi

I don't think I am. If I say "fix X issue," and it does it in a way I think is overstepping a boundary I wasn't expecting, I don't think it's fair to categorize it as a negative unless I explicitly told it not

I'm down for disliking AI, but I don't know if "overeagerness" is exactly an AI not doing what you want. Even by the sites own definition ("where your agents do what you want to the point of overriding existing perm

Trump has an 87% approval rating amongst Republicans as of the last poll I can find. While Trump is a megalomanic and does whatever he wants, he has the mandate of the Republican party, whose elected officials could choose at any moment to

Wow, Om was one of my first bosses. It’s hard to separate my memory of him from the era; he defined it. I have such nostalgia for both. He loved tech and startups… not buzzy tabloid stuff, but true journalism. A lot of people may not know G

Well, the 100 Wordles is just "Solve one Wordle" in a for-loop. If you're an even somewhat decent engineer, it takes under 10 minutes to get it working (inefficiently). Then we encourage people to do whatever they want next:

This isn't groundbreaking science, sure, but it is a great way to get people interested in a topic. After all, it wouldn't be on Hacker News if the word Wordle wasn't in it. I'm a huge fan of using things like this to te

Homelessness won't be ended with just money, it'll be solved with (or caused by) politics and policies. But the reason it's a "fallacy" is AOC could donate 100% of her current salary for 63,000 years and that would

No, her argument is not that people have too much money, it's that the system allows for it. She's dedicating her biggest resource, her time, to fixing this. There's a greater wealth inequality in the US now than there was at

AOC once summed up her political position as "I believe that in a modern, moral and wealthy society, no person in America should be too poor to live," and I would consider that directionally right.

I think there's a bit of nuance here. AOC is directionally correct, but of course there's exceptions. I do think Taylor Swift and JK Rowling "earned" a billion dollars. I don't think Elon Musk or Donald Trump "

I don't use it that way, but it is correct. "The property owner or police barred you from the property." I had never heard it until recently, and now this is the third time I've heard it used that way.

I'm really confused by this blog. There seems to be a large portion of the story missing. I can't figure out the correlation between the owner losing their franchise and the rest of the story. Why did they want to steal the sets?

I imagine there's a similar same number of those style projects out there. However, the amount of devs have grown exponentially, and the number of non-niche problems without a solution have dramatically decreased.
