If at some future time, we actually find a way to recover plastic / oils / utility from plastic that's sitting in a landfill, someone will then go back and dig up landfills to find it. If every trash bag has 10-15% plastic in

Have you considered trying an alarm clock that will run away from you? [0] I've never used it but I also have a tendency to sleep through _the most annoying alarms_ so I would consider it if I couldn't put my alarm out of easy re

I still find them helpful when the change is outside the cope of the current task. I especially like the ones that include both a reference to a Jira ticket (or similar), and an explanation of why, or any gotchas: # TODO: (CAFE-1256)

I'm sure you've heard this many times, but thank you for sharing these blog posts. You're doing some _really cool_ stuff, and it's a treat to be able to read about the depth to which you've thought of these problems

World of Warcraft action bars are this way by default, and I imagine other MMOs do as well. Drag a spell onto the bar to be able to use it more easily. Click it (or, ideally, press an associated hotkey), and it casts the spell or uses the i

I am not sure if you've already experienced-and-disliked his work, but may I recommend Neal Stephenson? I have always appreciated his style of prose, and the way he describes characters. He writes in a nerdy way that I can't qui

Seconding the "audiobooks count" that Imzadi said, I'd like to note that the Martian audiobook is exceptional, and I've heard that others by Weir are excellent as well. You might enjoy reading _short_ novels. I really li

Maybe it's that I'm not in as sunny an area, but all of the (battery + panels) numbers I've seen tell me I'll see a break-even in 15 years, vs in ~5 if I just have panels.

I normally just auto-apply `black` to my code, but occasionally I feel the need to have things arranged in a way that is easier to read -- e.g. a list of several dictionaries. In that case, I just put a comment telling it to stop reformatt

I realize that this is not even on topic, but _what a jolt of nostalgia_. I haven't even thought of that comic in what feels like a decade. Perhaps that's the optimal way of reading a webcomic (waiting until it's binge-able)?

I hope this doesn't derail the conversation much, but I found it interesting that you seem to be using 5 digit years, a convention I've never seen before. What drives this choice?

I'll just watch even fewer things on Prime, I guess. Everything about the UI and watching experience seems worse than Netflix, but then ... that's been worsening recently as well in ways I can't quantify.
