Reminds me of this http://motherfuckingwebsite.com/ I wonder if it is the same guy. Edit: Nope, @thebarrytone made mfw.com

I have issues with his "Reasons to use NoSQL" * Making the most of cloud computing and storage There are plenty of "cloud" hosting options for SQL databases, enough that a simple google search should make my point for me

I would just like to remind everyone of our (computer scientists/engineers) failure to check the expansion of the surveillance state we helped build. I am all for the cooperation of the public and private sectors, and I believe it is t

I definitely agree that their designers and engineers needed some busy work. I wonder if they are actually ab testing this stuff or just rolling it out because "community".

Doing away with signals is a great move, everything else about the elm architecture felt so intuitive. I'm excited to give elm another shot, and I yearn for the future he describes where web assembly makes elm a viable js replacement.

What proportion of that 25% actually returned correct results based on the users voice query? Even though my phone supports voice search I never use the feature. Not only do I not want to broadcast my search to the room/subway car, but

I'll have to give that a shot, seems like a nice compromise between fully automated solutions like Postgrest and a conventional ORM.

For a single server, I believe you are correct. However I found scaling write load past a single server's limits more difficult using Postgres than MongoDB. Fortunately that is part of what the OP addresses in his post.

Honestly that's not something I would handle at the db layer. I would build a service that is responsible for keeping client db's in sync and abstract that away from my database entirely.

For processing, 100% agree. However if the write load is very high then Mongo is better suited as the intial store. I then replicate to other dbs.

I found the vive to be much more immersive, and the games being developed for it felt like they truly understood the capabilities of VR. I'm really excited about the competition in the space, it is only going to be good for VR enthusia

I agree with you 100%. An abstracted interface for your datalayer is a must have. Many startups and projects begin with a single db and grow into new dbs as the business requirements change. Obviously if you know your data model well enough

Postgres is a better document store than Mongo. The only time I would recommend Mongo is for storing geo-spatial data, as it has several built ins that make it much easier to work with. Even then I find it a lot more convenient to keep that

Agreed, VR is very anti-social. I have several oculus and there is no real viable use outside of game that I have used. Screen replacement is a no go, way to much eyestrain.

I wonder how much of this is due to Oculus's clear lagging behind it competitors. HTC and Sony both have platforms that a more robust and better positioned to capture gamers than Oculus. I wouldn't want to stick around either.

If it didn't leave scar tissue I could see people getting tattoos that evolve over time, where an artist re-works a patch of skin every year. Imagine fashion week 2050 where models are rocking temp tattoos designed to last the season.
