I think this is due to how you work and what you build. If you plan it out, focus on the data structures you need and then build it, schemas are fine because you know up-front what you want. In more ad-hoc, constantly changing, "ops this di

No, I don't think so. Generally speaking you'd have to get some sort of insurance or hire yourself as an employee.

Interesting, but can't all pre-orders be thought of like "buying a reservation" ? You don't pre-order a book, you're purchasing a place on a list which will be used to determine who gets the first books.

Agreed, I live in Scandinavia and the the content is really lacking. But at ~12$ it's so cheap (cable is maybe 50-100 $) I can keep Netflix and NBO Nordic.. Edit: That being said, I'd probably discontinue Netflix if it weren't for Arrested

Your reply is way to short to not be awkward. It should be expanded to at least two paragraphs.

Yeah, but then you have to do it in "real time". The request won't go through and end up in a log somewhere if there's no MITM.

How do you test a) ? How do you know what you don't know? :) It seems like you're saying that something is not important if you do not find out about it..

If you really want to understand, do some reading. Different (conflicting) economic theories, history, philosophy.. It's quite easy to broaden ones perspective, if that's actually the goal.

Also: - it's nice to stare at something other than a screen - like the touch, feel and smell (?) of physical books - books carry some history, they age and change.. (that coffee stain reminds me of my time as a student)

As much as I dislike Oracle, this article is pure crap. It's only general speculation with no information or value. Then it starts talking about Datastax like they are the ones causing these (made up?) problems for Orcale.

Just one tip for your site: Don't use youtube for the video, it links to more unrelated youtube videos that people might be tempted to watch instead of, you know, testing Pagify :)

Isn't saying "it will never work because of $challenge" a little too simplistic? Maybe you're right, maybe it can't be done, but aren't we suppose to be problem solvers? :)

Yeah, I misread your comment as "in the developed world..".. Having felt the effect of "fireplace smoke" without a chimney I find it strange that people live like that. OTOH, African houses are probably much more open than the house I'm use

I'm fighting my instinct to refute the fireplace argument in order to get to the more important question. Feel the author is missing the last, important piece: To what degree is this affecting himself? How many beliefs does he hold, again

FWIW, my biggest wrist and arm problems came from using a "sticky" mouse. As the mouse and pad gets "old" and dirty, there's often a lot of friction when moving the mouse. The mouse should move very easily. (try lightly touching it with you

The title is "Why I GPL", so one would expect the stuff in the article to explain why he's using GPL. But I agree with GP, much of it does not. To be clear, Zed Shaw creates a lot of cools stuff, and if it was up to me I would hire him in a
