Of course the stripe founders are not absolved of blame. They made the wrong call. But overall Stripe has A+ execution -- of which very little was luck -- and the founders deserve credit for that.

Why act like the founders have to grovel and beg for forgiveness? They don't. If they had been extra cautious during covid in expectation for the economy to take a dive would stripe be in a better position today? Absolutely not.

The internet is so much larger than it used to be. Getting to a million users for a consumer app is possible, even in seemingly tiny niches. Then get 10% to pay $10 per year and that's a million dollars in annual revenue right there. T

The main problem continues to be, in my view, that we don't have the equivalent of plain text for formatted documents or trees. Plain text can be copy-pasted, read by any program, edited anywhere, and that's great. Binary formats

That's also true for high resolution maps. The question is whether you're solving for self-driving on highways or a handful of mapped city centers or whether you want to solve for the real thing. Tesla is all-in on FULL self drivi

Awkward to hold, slow page turns, bad battery life. A kindle is a million times better for epub reading. For PDF e-reading it's no good either because it's slow, and you can't read charts on a low resolution grayscale display

Musk knew at the time fsd was nowhere close to working every time he asserted that buying a tesla was a great investment that would make money for you as an autonomous taxi. Blatant fraud, no question about it.

Not to mention that the upside of self-driving cars is capped at the cost of an uber driver, and even in a world with ubiquitous fully autonomous cars you still want public transportation. Driver assistance on highways is probably the right

Stocks/real estate are mostly owned by richer people (and 401ks). There was plenty of inflation in luxury goods. Watches, private jets, art. Prices went through the roof. Covid boom put money into the hands of regular people, and that

The "extremely low inflation era" was also a time of very high inflation in long duration assets. It was an era where we saw one company after the another being valued at over a trillion dollars. It was an era where startups witho

A 4 year old iPhone still works perfectly, but a $200 Android will find its way to a landfill way sooner. As a rule of thumb, appliances that last are better for the environment than cheap products. Apple is good at make devices that last.

Brand and design is used as an argument when the product isn't doing anything critical. If your solution solves a real pain point nobody cares what it looks like. The onboarding for my SaaS products could be a lot better, but somehow w

1) TSMC is not for sale. It's of national importance to Taiwan. 2) There is only one TSMC. If you could just buy one for 500bn the EU would have bought 3 already. Building your own TSMC from scratch takes a decade, if not longer.

A huge percentage of the population wants to write a book. For many it's an innate desire, much like making music. If people who write books for financial gain decide to quit, I'm not sure it's a big loss.
