Cars are getting way more complicated. Just look at all the tech inside of modern headlights and side mirrors. Don't you think you need a complicated supply chain for all the sensors in modern cars? ICE drive trains aren't impossi

The underlying issue here is that European car manufacturers are in deep financial trouble. Employees are getting more expensive. Cars are getting more complicated and contain more chips. This increases R&D expenses. Margins are getting

This is article is low quality and almost fact free. Instead, read the IPCC report on this subject: https://www.ipcc.ch/srocc/chapter/chapter-4-sea-level-rise-a... Specifically, the section “projection” covers how

What if a privacy subscription costs $1000/mo? Does anybody believe you can use this "one cool trick" to circumvent EU privacy laws? FB is basically daring Europe to enforce their laws. I hope the entire concept of paying for

Not being quite sure how git deals with this even though, as the parent argues, it is the sensible default behavior, is really the problem. Everything is possible with git but nothing is easy or easy to remember.

At some point you’ve got to stop messing with syntax. It plain sucks not being able to run anything on a linux machine that is on a LTS schedule. The constant churn of version updates that fix some things but break other things is a massive

It makes no sense for a microservice that does one simple thing to run on top of 10 million lines of 90s C code. Especially since a lot of that code has to do with hardware quirks that don’t exist in a hypervised environment.

The energy required for carbon capture is larger than the all energy produced by burning fossil fuels over the past 100 years (00100 years?). It's not literally impossible, but energy would have to be "too cheap to meter" for

Yes yes, but that doesn't change the fact that Sam positioned himself to be unfireable. The board took their best shot and now the board is (mostly) gone and Sam is still the chief executive. They board will find itself sidelined from

If I'm correct then the board is fine with getting replaced, they just don't want Sam to have total control. Many of the candidates for independent director are friendly with Sam and will happily give him the keys to the kingdom.

Okay, let's stipulate that Sam was maneuvering to get full board control. Then the independent directors were probably worried that -- sooner or later -- Sam would succeed. With Sam fully in charge the non-profit goals would be complet

If Sam returns he doesn't want to risk getting ousted again? So presumably he'll appoint people 100% loyal to him. Plenty of precedent for tech founders to have total board control. It will take a little while for Sam to consolida

I agree. As long as Sam has total control over the board it's fine if Iiya doesn't approve of everything Sam does. Not worth losing a top AI researcher over this.
