I’m currently in love with Arktype, and as it supports Standard Schema it plugs into most places that can take Zod schemas too :) https://arktype.io/

Yeah the current best approach to aggressively compact and recreate context by starting fresh. It’s awkward and I wish I didn’t have to.

A lot of investment at some very large companies you know are trying to achieve this right now, and betting big on it. So far the lack of determinism when it is required gets in the way, but we’ll see: it feels surmountable.

I wonder why so many have got this wrong across this thread? Was it true once upon a time or something, or have people just misunderstood your docs or similar?

Gosh I loved my Nokia N9. Such an amazing little phone, and it's depressing a little that I can't use them anymore where I live

Indeed. We will stick them in prison, but they can’t use social media. It’s a farce.

For sure, but these new tools spit out a lot more and a lot faster, and it’s usually correct “enough” that the compiler won’t yell. It’s been wild to see its suggestions be wrong far more often than they are right, so I wonder how useful

You beat me to it, and yep these are exactly it. “Mock the world then test your mocks”, I’m simply not convinced these have any value at all after my nearly two decades of doing this professionally

No, it is qualitatively different because it happens in-line and much faster. If it’s not correct (which it seems it usually isn’t), they spend more time removing whatever garbage it autocompleted.

The “change capture”/straight jacket style tests LLMs like to output drive me nuts. But humans write those all the time too so I shouldn’t be that surprised either!

Watching my juniors constantly fight the nonsense auto completion suggestions their LLM editor of choice put in front of them, or worse watching them accept it and proceed to get entirely lost in the sauce, I’m not entirely convinced that t

I miss Dreamweaver. Combining it with Fireworks was a crazy productive combo for me back in the mid 00’s! My first PHP scripts and games were written using nothing more than Notepad too funnily enough

Not that I’m one to do so, but comments like that usually get downvoted as it’s a quintessential example of whataboutism. Egypts government is abhorrent.

I used to run Puppy Linux and then TCL (and its predecessor DSL) on a super old Pentium 3 laptop with like 700mb of RAM or something. Made it actually usable!

Even without the explicit magic ORMs, with data mapper style query builders like Kysely and similar, I still find I need to marshall selected rows into objects to, yknow, do things with them in a lot of cases. Perhaps a function of GraphQL

I gave it a tool to execute to get that info if required, but it mostly doesn’t need to due to Kysely migration files and the database type definition being enough.
