That's.... so strangely diametrically opposite to my experience with Nix. The language itself leaves some things to be desired, and of course no argument on the documentation, but as a build and packaging system I have never in my life

I think their point is more that the usable scale of teams/codebases is not limited by trunk based development. Which that is pretty ample evidence of.

You don't have to have "sympathy" for either party to recognize what the just course of action is. Nor do the hypothetical actions of Spotify in the reverse situation affect it in any way

I'm trying to find a reading of the GP comment that is in Ayn Rand's favor, and I'm really not finding it.

You know how when you first start learning to code, the kids who really "get it" right away start off thinking shorter code = smarter code = better code? k always seemed like a bunch of those kids managed to become highly accompli

I mostly agree with the GP comment, but CUDA support has definitely been the one exception that was just an absolutely infuriating experience.

Pretty much all the listed cons are just about having to migrate large amounts of code (regardless of what sort of migration it is). Didn't really seem to have anything to do with monorepos at all, really. Which is not to say there are

Even when done by hand, you're also generally going to use a large batch all at once to create a panel of different tests under varying conditions. So it's more like you're using a new tip about every 5-10 seconds for 15 minu

I got it pretty regularly as a kid, though it disappeared completely by my mid 20s or so. You want to stop it because it triggers a massive, involuntary physical fear response. Not so much when waking up, but certainly when falling asleep.

Closer to a Tomagotchi. It's just some cute little pixel animations. It "levels up" as you use it, and has a mood based on frequency of usage, and randomly rotates between different activities. It doesn't affect anything

Picked one up for Christmas and have already been having a blast with it today. Yes, it is supremely hackable, try awesome-flipperzero [1] as a starting point. The iOS exploit discussed here is already patched as of a week or two ago, fwiw.

Having a standardized system for that only makes Nix more complicated, not less. Now you have two parallel configuration systems to worry about. And the "simple" one will inevitably accrue more and more features to address its lac

This is completely trivial to do in Nix now. Whoever's writing the nix can just expose "simple" config as a JSON file and use those values whatever.

It's not exactly a 1:1 comparison, but NixOS' tight and extremely simple integration with systemd and podman has made NixOS native containers a pleasure to work with. OP seems to maybe not be aware of them?

We have really over-indexed on this dopamine thing as a culture, I think. The important piece is the feeling of internal reward, not any specific chemical. The role of dopamine is so, so much more complex than "make brain happy."

I honestly wish more people would try to organize their files to be read top-to-bottom, it makes it much faster to grok something new. But of course there are lots of other factors constraining the way a file can/should be ordered, d
