I totally get it. It's kind of like climate change, there's only so far that individual responsibility goes. If you want to make a proper difference there would need to be a huge amount of legislation, and regulation. That doesn&#

I guess we all make choices about the kind of work we do. If enough devs feel it's not something they can support, the co wouldn't be able to do whatever the thing is. I am an accountant, so can and have been put in ethically dubi

I suppose you have to start somewhere with simplifying the problem, otherwise it's too huge. I would assume that most devs would have a choice about where not to work. If one doesn't care about privacy, it's a lot easier to w

In what respect is it ridiculous? That devs have no choice but working there, or that it would correct the privacy problem?

Couldn't you save the xls as csv? I use the qif format, but not all banks offer it.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I am UK based, so 401k is not relevant to me. Gnucasg is a double entry system, so I use it to track spend and keep records of my assets.

I have used Gnucash for years now. I import my bank statements on a periodic basis and code the transactions from there.

No, everyone should not get a degree. A degree is a specific kind of learning that many people does not work for many people. I did a Master's degree. It was hard, I barely passed. However, being an accountant you have to do a professi

Surely, dystopian or utopian depends on who you ask? Brave New World, clearly shows a dystopia from the point of view of John, but Utopia for the Alpha-pluses having soma fuelled sex parties. The meaning of dystopia is negative. Regardless

I'm an accountant, currently head of finance for an ecommerce business. About 10 years ago learnt Python as a bit of fun. I have now developed a niche of IT/Accounting. New accounting systems need IT assistance, so being conversan

Yes, you certainly have to have much more thought about where you are and what's been going on.

I use a bookmark that my kids frequently remove, so just kind of remember where I am up to in any given book.

Same, but from Tutanota. I like the multiple domains for no extra cost as I have several low traffic domains.

I used Tutanota but have moved away recently. It's a very pretty walled garden, but a walled garden nonetheless. I've just accepted that email isn't secure, so don't use it for secure communications.

No, I get it. But I guess does an outsourced service count towards your company? I'd say not. You don't count the people that made your pc.

Up to a certain level you don't need to have an accounting qualification. Even then, if you outsource statutory accounts, I wouldn't have thought that counts.

I am currently an accountant who codes on the side. I have been writing my own accounting software for learning purposes. Modelling double entry is a lot tricker than one would imagine. I think that Gnucash's approach is pretty good.
