I think the primary reason you don't see large amounts of sophisticated market makers is that the Bitcoin exchanges don't provide rules that are very favorable to them. The per-trade fees are high and liquidity rebates rare.

The correct solution requires that you get out of the boat and put two cannibals on it. The statement that the boat holds "only you" and one other person very strongly implies that is not allowed.

You must be stating the missionaries and cannibals problem incompletely. If only one person can fit on the boat at a time (which is essentially the case because you didn't say the person operating the boat is a missionary or cannibal,

You can't tease us with such a question and not tell us what it is! Or perhaps you're still using it and don't want to reveal it publicly? :(

It was almost certainly shot with 35mm film. Film is analog so it doesn't have a well-defined resolution, but modern 35mm is pretty comparable to 4k (maybe a little less, depending on the quality of the camera/printing/etc)

Typical compression of 4k video ends up being more than a factor of 10 smaller.

You don't need to setup a corporation or payroll to get these benefits. Anyone can deduct business expenses. You end up paying the same payroll taxes either way.

The regulatory body that governs options restricts them for IPOs. There is a period of time (I believe it's 2 weeks) after IPO that options are not allowed to be traded in public markets, so you have to wait until then. At that point,

This would have no net effect on the supply of shares, so it would not decrease their share price (aside from temporary fluctuations while you are doing the buying/selling).

Yes you're basically right, but it is (perhaps unfortunately) a common way to express it in English. I.e. 2x fewer calories would imply 1/2 as many calories, 5x faster would imply 1/5th the time, etc.

Is there anything preventing the employees/founders from just immediately selling the Marin stock for its cash value? It's a public company so it should be trivial to sell for very near the same value given in the deal.

Ranking people by their recommendation performance is going to be very misleading for most people. There is this natural intuition to look at the top performers and try to learn from them. In reality, the rankings would look almost identica

From what I've seen, you generally need a 12-24 month lease to rent a house. I can sell my house whenever I want (or leave and rent it out to someone else), but if I'm stuck in a 24 month lease I'm stuck for the next 2 years.

Still though, aren't most consumers using their ISP's DNS servers, which will cache the same response for all of their customers in a region?

Their example for a 'high traffic' site struck me by surprise. With all the caching that goes on with DNS queries, 1.2B in a month seems incredibly high. I wouldn't have even imagined google.com getting that many requests to

I think you misunderstood the article. It's not about choosing how much to compensate someone. It's about how to allocate equity given a known compensation total.

This is probably the best equity compensation plan for pre-IPO companies I've seen so far. Vesting schedules for a fixed quantity of equity have always irked me for the same reason Max explains: they assume a constant value over the li

If it had 90% of movies and TV shows (weighted by popularity), I'd easily pay $100/month. Of course I could get it all for free by pirating it, but not having to would be tremendously more convenient.

While you are correct that it would require pretty above median savings, it wouldn't require anywhere near $125,000 back then. Interest is a very powerful force over 40 years. From 1949 to 1989, the stock market averaged 7.2% annually.
