Off topic, but since there are a couple of "why would someone poor buy a $1500 sofa" I thought I would link to a really great article discussing this: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/cafe/why-do-poor-people-waste

Interesting. Were you actually seeing failures without running multiple clusters?

Doesn't that mean that you immediately lose data if a node goes down or a disk dies? FWIW the split brain problems (while not impossible) are extremely rare in ES in my experience. Seems like you've traded one potentially rare pro

LDA/Topic Modeling is interesting stuff. I always feel like the way this data gets surfaced as "tags" is very ineffective. Any non-tech person would look at this and generally be confused. So this item is triggering my rants

Can I suggest another company dealing with large amounts of data at a similar scale: http://automattic.com/work-with-us/data-wrangler/ Yes this is a shameless plug for the company I love working for, but I think i

A better description of the bug: http://www.ual.es/~plopez/docencia/itis/patriot.htm It was related to limited precision, but was also related to using different calculation methods in different parts of the

Not sure how that's calculated. I assume it is accurate, but the index size is going to depend a lot on what kind of text you have and how it is separated into individual terms (or n-grams or all the other ways you can tokenize and fil

There are a lot of features thoughtfully combined that make ES great. Top of my list would be: 1. It handles human written language. Any language. The same technology that let's it handle strings written in human language provides a lo

While I agree with the sentiment, I think Shay (lead ES developer) has explicitly said that he does not consider ES to be a data store... yet. I think this is mostly due to maturity. I help run a large ES cluster (with canonical data in MyS

Unless your definition of 'engineer' is someone who drives a train, I don't see how 'engineering' doesn't apply to coding. At least good coding. I was an electrical engineer before being a software engineer. Th
