This is very much engineering, discoving an extremely effective solution based on system knowledge.

For the remote areas this is intended for, it is already a 10x or more improvement. Great internet service is better than perfectly reliable slow internet.

We are closing in on enough storage and cheap cameras to easily store a lifetime from at least one vantage point.

We are chasing the 9s... diminishing returns are still returns. If 10x the data improves from 99.999 to 99.9995, that is still progress. Maybe 100x data gets you to 99.9999.

Arizona roads are also mapped to extreme precision, have very wide lanes, and are optimized for cars. Waymo has prioritized low intervention by being overly cautious and avoiding hard maneuvers (like many left turns). That doesn't work

A company or government reducing quality and effectiveness over time is not stabilization, but erosion of core principles. Engineering is innovation and maintenance. Bureaucrats slow good change while pushing to cut corners.

It was barely an Elise by the time they shipped. So many changes were needed, that they said they'd have been far better off starting fresh, which is what they did with the S.

The chip shortage will look like nothing, once the EV ramp increases. Batteries are always the bottleneck. Ford announced a 60GWh plant partnership, but that will only hold them over for several years of growth and is still a ways away from

I'm really curious what client requirements drove that decision. 'In development'. Does this mean v1 hasn't even shipped yet?

I think you'll find that the energy density and energy co-location of a gas tank to be far greater than a battery. Far more negative outcomes are possible with highly flammable fuel only separated from the outside world by a thin metal

If this or another design could actually reduce fuel requirements by that much, how much closer would we be to full-size battery-electric planes being viable? Current requirements are pegged at 400 Wh/kg, while current batteries are be

Contact is a movie I loved as a kid, and found even better as an adult. The way it manages to semi-accurately represent politics and ideology across governments and private industries, especially with Alien contact at stake is wonderful. It

It is the same as an ICE vehicle when living in an apartment. You just have to make an occasional stop at a Supercharger, or one of the many venues around town that offer free trickle charging while you shop.
