To answer more specifically; yes— not only is every node in the bus network addressable for power needs and capabilities, even each of the two ends of a cable is a separately addressable node (mostly used to figure out which way a swappable

There's actually a supplemental spec, USB-PD(Power Delivery) which now accopmanies USB 3.0 and addresses this. It is carried over the USB physical layer but does not rely on the data layer for communication.

As I re-read your response it is seeming stranger and stranger. It seems you, too, are refusing to answer the straightforward question put forward. If no-one has asked the devs to explain this claim of potential vulnerabilities, so be it. B

I appreciate your response, but I think also you are misrepresenting the events here. If the developers simply moved on that would be one thing, but what actually happened is they also made this claim: Using TrueCrypt is not secure a

Seconded. I was quite puzzled by this whole issue when it happened and surprised to see that there hasn't been much clarification since. The developers who posted this message are real people whom others have been in contact with since

So you're proposing keeping elite crypto expert(s) on the payroll for--what, years?--as they patiently wait for the community to build something that meets their standards? I'm not going to say such a person or people don't e

So, an open-source product which the developers have publicly declared as insecure, and on which a major code-audit has stalled inconclusively, is superior to closed-source _how_, exactly? Not saying you're wrong, per se, just that it

Your arrogance is showing. Sure, you could learn how to operate a lathe on an assembly line in a matter of weeks; in just the same way nearly any adult of average education could learn in a matter of weeks to write WordPress templates, or c

Apple considers iOS to be a branch of OS X, so I imagine they consider it covered by these releases. I can't really imagine what FOSS code they would feel compelled to include in iOS that's not already in OS X, anyway.

The Emerge Alliance[1] is an industry group that has been working on this issue, though they've started with a spec for datacenters (as stephen_g alludes to). I think the consensus is that it is definitely more efficient to convert to

I think you need to update your figures. High-end consumer luminaires have been coming in above 100 lm/watt total system efficiency for at least a year or so now, and with CRI superior to fluorescents.

I'd like to see some evidence that they have sunsetted any of their CNC capacity, as well. They're still making the iPhone 5s, and as far as I'm aware aren't the new iPhones, as well as the iPad and Mac lines, all still

I don't think I've used it, but it would have never occurred to me that the paper plane icon did anything other than send an email. Of course I'm one of those weirdos that just copies a URL when I want to share something.
