Please spare us this trite bullshit. I see people trying to justify their inability to improve themselves all the time. "If I'm having trouble, everyone else must be too!", they think, instead of considering the obvious: maybe they just suc

Seeing this resolution to the mystery made my day. It's refreshing to see that all this buzz was the result of a glorious postal mishap, not a concerted effort to hijack our attention with a viral marketing stunt.

I feel like they don't know what pivoting means. The first pivot doesn't sound like a pivot; they built a new business with the same venture money. The second pivot isn't a pivot either. I think reasonable people would call that "growth and

I believe what you are thinking of is called "Haskell Prime". Haskell' is an effort to evolve the language standard of Haskell, and my impression of it has always been that it's rather analogous to Python 3, except that Haskell seems to evo

I find it hard to imagine how I could be less impressed with this landing page, even if it does look pretty nice. In this age of launchrock pages that usually amount to nothing, I expect more of an HN post than a vacuous mission statement a

I'm never going back to a sub-1920x1080 laptop screen for development. Screen real estate is just too precious to waste by having a sub-optimal resolution. Maybe in 10 years, or whenever I need reading glasses, I'll feel differently.

When writing a database, performance is extremely important. Languages like C++ give you manual control of the computer's resources, which means you can count on predictable performance and memory management. Why is this important? All of y

The trouble is, larger apps are logical extensions of smaller apps in Flask. I find it rather pleasant to use Flask to build large RESTful APIs, but I don't find there to be any interesting challenges or insights that would make it worthwhi

This may often be true, but if you work on something that is closely tied to the flow of information on the internet then it's almost impossible not to get distracted by your own product. I've been working on a stream aggregation site for s

I would, but only as an unpaid intern. Dealing with payments to India is too hard for a fledgling startup. Maybe you'll find a more established company to pay...but as a Python/Haskell hacker I could at least offer you intellectually stimul

If you were located in Boston (or SV), you'd probably have your pick of startups that would give you a paid summer internship. The best thing you can do is get involved in your local startup scene. Most of us doing software startups don't c

There are some instances of Haskell outperforming C/C++, but this is generally limited to situations where unboxing, strict application and Haskell's type system allow GHC to perform some amazing optimization. In other words, don't expect H
