If this works as well as Python's requests library, then you are my hero. I hate dealing with email in Python, because the standard library interfaces to email are horrible. I have a have a project that could use this now , so I wil

Thank you! I'm glad someone finally agrees with me. I keep getting overruled on this point, but I wanted to put an interactive product demo on the landing page. Algorithmic.ly is a simple service for certain kinds of algorithms without

Okay, I'll go for it. I'm very curious to see how the traffic will compare to Hacker News. Yesterday I put a link to my company ( http://algorithmic.ly ) in a comment and the response was overwhelming. I've heard th

I believe all of the material is still pertinent. It primarily uses the MovieLens data set and mostly builds off of textbook techniques and generic Python. It's not a book that will go out of data quickly.

Well, I don't expect The Customer Factory to be a philosophy book. Instead, I expect it to be full of practical ideas and tools. Most business books, even those about Lean, start from what I see as an alien perspective. Sure, I can g

Recruiting is an entirely separate issue. Building a team begins where recruiting ends. In this talent market (in Boston in my case) we have a difficult time with recruiting, but our experiences with team building have been far more painful

If you're not good at building a founding team, how will you excel at building a company? Technology and design are great, but companies are the people that they are comprised of. There's nothing wrong with being a solo founder be

One lesson I've learned over the years: You can keep launching until someone notices, but if you have to "launch" in the first place, that's the business equivalent of a code smell. Once you accept that you will not get

You are completely right. But...is 1366x768 really the dominant resolution right now, even with the emergence of Apple as a dominant PC maker? On my site, the top 3 resolutions are as follows: 1. 1440x900 2. 1600x900 3. 1920x1

I find it interesting to see all of the comments on HN about the dislike of args and kwargs, especially given their necessity for higher order programming. If you are making functions that modify other functions (like decorators), these are

Whenever I teach a Python workshop I have to make sure to go over this or it leads to confusion for about 20% of people. But that's for new programmers. Either AngularJS is attracting people very new to programming, or there must be so

I looked at the live demo first. It didn't look like there'd be much bootstrap involved so I almost closed the article, but it's actually worth a read because there's more to it than meets the eye.

Agreed, when I was at Tech (03-08) startups were all the rage and there were tons of them forming around campus. I think times have probably changed in Atlanta thanks to the financial crisis, and startups are no longer as common.

When I was at Georgia Tech (graduated '08), I was forced to take CS and EE classes. You could easily get exceptions to prerequisites for classes if you asked, and so I did. Having open access to CS/EE changed my life, and I change

The original claim was that there was no language as open as Dart. I vehemently disagree. Plenty of languages are as open as Dart, and there are several, including Python that are more open. I believe you are underestimating the importance

How about putting it in the care of an independent foundation like the Python Software Foundation? Until Dart is wrested from corporate control Python will still be the more open language.
