An alternative to postfix: To receive mail, you could setup Haraka (a very simple NodeJS smtp server)[1] on any unix instance (such as AWS micro). You'll need to set proper MX records for your domain and a few simple configurations. If He

I wish we would treat cyberspace analogues of established property with the same respect given to the original. For example, your e-mail inbox is the online equivalent of your mailbox. Yet, one being "on your lawn" and the other "at Googl

This reminds me of the result of the abstinence argument. Namely, even if you believe all premarital sex is immoral, it's still important to realize that safe immoral sex is better for the man and woman than unsafe immoral sex. When the g

On a blog post for Tinfoil Security, it would be better to phrase this as "We also check for these types of vulnerabilities." Tinfoil Security clearly found this specific vulnerability using their own product.

That really bothered me. I understand this is demonstrating a novel UI and user experience, but lack of "save" genuinely ruined my experience.

You and your opponent could verify your dictionaries when you are matched up. Checksum mismatch = cancel match-up. Cheaters would be naturally weeded out.

I think you're confusing the two meanings of "free". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis_versus_Libre . RMS is likely advocating for free as in free of restrictions, not per se "at zero cost".

I love the idea and how this moves us forward. Instead of mailing an absentee ballot, you have identical authentication of e-mailing that ballot instead of placing it in the mail. Despite the complications for privacy, tracking and disenf

If you look at this rationally, it's actually pretty sane. It's just very simple JavaScript OOP inline with translated code. Even more beautiful is the output of modules: module Run def run puts "I am running!"

I think this is clearly the easiest solution to the problem if we want to fix it in the long run. It requires people to boycott bikes with a scratched off BIN, but shaming can go a long way to adjust demand. +1

That's a pretty unacceptable viewpoint, especially as you have heard only one man's side of the story.

While I appreciate your novel approach, the phrase "hacked passes" is inapt for the substance here. "Hacked together" might do better. Otherwise, hats off for grabbing Dave's attention.

I find the copy on the website to be rather vague or off-topic. From the homepage: Tent is open, decentralized, and built for the future. Tent changes everything. Tent allows every user to run their own server, but like email and the

That doesn't make sense. Three days after you sign-up (i.e. no cache), if they are sending you your password, it can only be because it's plaintext. Unless they are bruteforcing the hash for your convenience... :-)

I guess a bigger question is why don't we use challenge/response authentication for websites? This way, a program like keychain could answer challenges without ever exposing plain-text passwords.

I find the API to be the most interesting part of this project. When you can plug this data into NILM[1] algorithms, you can then calculate the cost of running an appliance in your house and check online for less expensive alternatives. [1

This is a refreshing comment. We can say the same about a lot of websites. I should note, however, this runs abut to the concept of UI versus UX.

Appreciate the feedback. We're always working to better incorporate international users, but the good news is that most people lookup websites are very US-focused. We're working on asking for city/state/country/postal code if you don't ha

I'd contrast this situation to Wikipedia, which allows unfettered access to collaboration. The benefit of MediaWiki is that people can build their changes directly on previous changes, being continually pulled into master. Alternatively,
