The hard part with Elm’s lack of typeclasses is the lack of do notation. It’s pretty easy to end up in Elm’s version of “callback hell” where you’re nested several `andThen`s deep. And that’s for a language that doesn’t have `IO`. That said

This topic has been brought up a lot in these conversations and I’ve missed the substance. Which laws do we suspect Apple may have broken with their App Store contracts?

Many of those use cases probably shouldn’t be supported. It would cut down on fraud if we disallowed card not present transactions on unknown devices.

We can definitely have deterministic Turing-complete programs. Do you mean you want totality? I agree that's nice, but in practice, being free from side-effects is likely more important than ensuring the program halts.

My only fear is that wouldn't businesses constantly relocate to new areas with lower minimum wages? If the area you're located in goes from $5 to $8 (possibly due to your factory), why not relocate three counties over to an area t

I mean, you might be able to get away with implementing a WASM VM and a small subset of JavaScript APIs, which might be significantly simpler than implementing all of JavaScript itself.

For what it’s worth, with ADTs and non-exposed constructors you can achieve the same result (i.e. only the creating module can actually _build_ such a list but other modules can read the data).

Our solution is to clone docs which we plan to share externally. Then, at least, it's a doc that has already been shared out, instead of docs that you continue to update.

If a company like Monsanto cured cancer, couldn’t you laud that effort even if you still disagree with other practices of the organization? Things, people, companies are rarely all good or all bad. We should applaud Facebook for their FOSS

I truly believe this is the only solution in the long-term. Certainly it looks impossible for individuals to have access to healthcare without employer-negotiated support, but that’s _because_ it’s the status quo and effectively the only cu

I think the biggest difference is once I switched away from `-m`, I tend to write multi-line commit messages. Specifically, I do a title line and a full description in the commit message itself. GitHub will pick this up (if you have a singl

We've been using Linear for an 8-person engineering team for the last few months, and I just want to say thank you -- we've really loved it. The well-designed app with hotkeys makes managing tickets and cycles so fast that it does

I would suppose OPs argument is that this is like how much sawdust can you add to food before people notice and choose alternative media consumption. There's presumably a lot of deadweight loss and collusion that play to these results.
