Maybe I'm dense, but what is the $5 wrench attack? Attacking you personally with a wrench until you agree to show me the sensitive data on your machine?

Checking for 500's seems like a pretty minimal test suite. There are plenty of other errors that could occur.

This may not be all that useful for hackers who aren't doing anything particularly weird. Wget should return the same thing. The times that this is interesting is when wget doesn't return the same thing. This could indicate a bug in yo

Problems: - Easier to defeat than OCR. - Only 9 combinations, so random guessing works fine too. - Visually impaired fail.

I once walked up to a university helpdesk to get them to allow my wireless card's mac on the wireless network. I told them that I was using linux and they said "that's OK, just open the internet". I hadn't heard that reference yet and it

I really appreciate how the article ends by saying that the author agrees with Paul's main conclusions, but that the author disagrees with the arguments being made. That's largely how I felt after reading Paul's essay too, but I couldn't h

Fascinating. I noticed that the fraction of managers/owners appears to have shot up faster than any other category in the last 30 years or so.

Agreed, however my only point is that this makes more sense strategically than just commercially. It may not make sense either way, but it could. There are other interests that could cut off Japan if the US didn't choose to step in. This

For a moment, ignore the commercial viability of this. Of course, in a free global market, this isn't viable. Think about this strategically. Japan has roughly 40M barrels of proven oil reserved. They consume 5M barrels of oil a DAY. Wi

What are you trying to solve with the text captcha? Users might get confused what is going on there. If a spammer wanted to create a zillion accounts, they could very very quickly write code to solve a captcha like that. Those kinds of ca

It also depends somewhat on what you do with the grass from the lawnmower. If you just throw it on a landfill, as it decomposes, it too will release methane. This is why many (although not nearly enough) landfills have small methane-burni
