The poster glosses over the thing that Twitter did that wasn't on the content moderation curve: banning people for COVID-19 "misinformation" and "election interference." This is why something needed to be done. T

No, because the thing that has changed explicitly is Twitter is no longer going to ban users based on hateful conduct, but deboost their tweets.

Very nice overview - thanks for this. Q: what's your take on the path to a possible a web browser based DHT that could be used instead of tracker servers (or anything, really.) I've seen a variety of people trying to figure this o

The AI models don’t have access to reality, so insofar as art needs to be motivated from physical reality, it breaks down until they do. For example, if humans were to start modifying their bodies in a novel and counterintuitive way, AI mod

The big question is what happens when the human training set for art stops being generated? Will AI art stagnate, or will there still be enough humans making art without financial reward to continue to supply models with better data?

Criminals extensively using crypto proves that it is the case - under authoritarian regimes criminals are acting with virtue. Obviously things like Tornado Cash facilitate ways to obfuscate chain state, but further things like ZKPs will con

Apple won’t ship anything until they’ve found a way to make people want to. The key insight is that the device will be off most of the time.

Zuck’s thesis is going to be vindicated in a few months and he will end up being basically spot on in terms of ubiquity in 10 years. The pivot to catch up conceptually with Apple is going to be tough but doable.

That's not middleware, is it? It's cool, but sits between what is discussed here and something like a FaaS. My understanding is that this post is about actually deploying middleware that runs during the serve of the static pages.

I have never seen an example where you land a JS file in a static website in git and it just runs as part of server side middleware. Seems legit novel but would like to know other examples.

The root of this thread is rejecting the idea of appeasement. Escalation that ultimately ends in appeasement is not a counterargument but evidence that appeasement is a valid strategy for ending a conflict when it comes to nuclear weapons.
