"suture" and "sutra" are cognates in Latin and Sanskrit respectively. A sutra सूत्र is literally a thread or fibre. This also explains why it was calqued into Chinese as 經 (among other meanings, "weave"). Simil

Unfortunately, this isn't correct according to my sources -- Italian anno < Latin annus < PIE h₂t-nó-s from a root h₂t- "to go", while ano < Latin anus < PIE *h₁eh₂no- "ring".

The person who posted the vaccine misinformation had undergone some personal loss for which he blames the medical system. While this doesn't excuse spreading misinformation, it helped me understand where his desire to sow doubt in orga

This kind of reminds me of the Heptapod writing system from "Arrival". I wonder what contributes to the cost -- is it simply because it's unique, or are some of the materials expensive?

"Eel thing" for erisypelas sounded odd to me as the name for a skin condition. The only references I could find online are to copies of this list, so perhaps it was a transcription error.

Facebook does not have stack ranking — de facto or otherwise. You mention that Google is somehow an exception, but I think you'll find that in terms of the PSC (review cycle), the attitude towards work and flexibility, and the expectat

This sounds fascinating, although "DOSBLOOD.EXE" only returns one Google result, being this comment. I assume it would work by constantly modifying the bitmap font?

@cybergibbons also discovered that whatever algorithm they use has the unfortunate property that points fairly close together only differ in whether one word is singular or plural. For support to be sent to the wrong location in an emergenc

Why not? It's likely because the platforms were all much simpler then. Vendor-specific features like stickers, end-to-end encryption, video attachments, reactions make it difficult to support a subset which is going to satisfy regular

I can second dkasper's observations -- the PSC cycle is engineered to reward initiative. That said, depending on the team, the practice does not always follow the theory, so it makes sense that the FB employees your company could poach

Don't confuse anti-PRC sentiment with anti-Chinese sentiment. It is a classic strategy to conveniently conflate the two only when the CPC is being criticised.
