FYI: Matt, your "redacted" links on the 2008 and 2009 versions of this article still link to the site in question. The Twitter link on the 2009 article actually links to the Twitter account in question, too.

I've used this extensively for generating spreadsheets, and it's pretty awesome.

The Windows NT development team made the decision to standardise on UTF-16. Every release of Windows since the original NT uses UTF-16 internally for all its "wide character" API calls (e.g., wcslen() and FindWindowW()).

Expertise with Win32 internals doesn't make you a competent sysadmin or web application developer. rootkit.com runs one of the worst custom web apps I've ever seen. If you can't even get GET/POST/cookie escaping correct in PHP after years

They're all way outside US jurisdiction (where all these sites operate), so there's really no point. These aren't people I know personally, merely acquaintances from various black hat communities. Honour among thieves, and all that.

Ok, that is pretty damning. If someone signs up and realises they've been duped, they probably won't even contest the CC charge due to a variation on the Small Penis Rule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_penis_rule They'll just cancel

It's really unfortunate that this is the norm and not an exception. That said, users of these kind of sites are probably most susceptible to this kind of trick as love, lust and infatuation are probably the strongest emotions. I know of a f

Ruby typically uses it pretty heavily (and to great effect) alongside its metaprogramming capabilities.

GetSat and UserVoice are seen as competitors (even though they're really not). Also, the submitter is the CEO of UserVoice.

This appears, unfortunately, to be the norm and not the exception. It comes to mind every time I sign up on a new service. Obligatory: http://codahale.com/how-to-safely-store-a-password/

No need to do that, they've pointed out in the past that it's a stock image they've bought the rights to use and can not authorize others to use it. I forget where I read this, but it was someone asking the same thing. I might have been on

There is a large subset of the US population that would distrust any information from an Arabic source. BBC, Reuters, and Al Jazeera are amazing compared to CNN/MSNBC/FOX.

If you're on a mac, you already have rails and ruby 1.8.6 (osx 10.5) or 1.8.7 (osx 10.6). Just sudo gem update to get the latest version and you're good to go.
