Complexity also comes from the number of papers that work out how different elements of network work and how to intuitively change them. Why do we use conv operators, why do we use attention operators, when do we use one over the other? Wha

It is soothing to the mind because it conveys that it’s understandable but it doesn’t take away from the complexity. You still have to read through math and pytorch code and debug nonsensical CUDA errors, comb through the data, etc etc

I really liked requesting an install CD from Ubuntu when I was in high school in Eastern Europe and installing it on whatever system I had access to. It was one of the first pieces of mail that I received personally and it felt like Christm

Google will never come up with a branding and stick to it. They could’ve built a better walled garden than Apple but chose not to because it doesn’t align with their financials currently and their org is basically 100 startups in a trench

The Soviet electronics manufacturing and the politics around it were very interesting. Somebody else in the thread recommended the Asianometry video, go watch it. As for repressions, intellectuals getting censored, assasinated even [1]. Tur

They probably won’t do that in the current antitrust climate. I hope the DOJ and the EU continue probing the big companies because I’m sick and tired of my non-ecosystem device choices not working well together.

Facebook’s attempt didn’t work out because they lost the youth market to Snapchat, TikTok, Discord and Instagram(It’s funny, I know). They tried to bring in Instagram users into Facebook but that didn’t(hasn’t) work out yet.

It probably is but one nuance is that peer reviews are from random people across the internet, not subject experts. There’s an argument to be made whether random people can achieve the same thing that experts do. I personally use Wikipedia

It will take a lot of prototypes and “reinventing the biological wheel” to achieve some kind of integration between the ML systems which were previously designed with a very specific task in mind. Truly exciting times.

My comment was more about the influence of Louis on media in general (in this case HN) and less of a critique of the topic in question. Why are you strawmaning? The fact that I made this comment the same day he released his video in fact me
